Friends don't let friends use transfer droppers. Unreliable POS

^^^ Agree. You have to send them in for service, and they ALL stop working in a pretty short amount of time.

My experience with one Transfer dropper was that it failed within a couple of months. Fox warrantied it, I sold the replacement on Craigslist.
OTOH, I know a couple people with them who seem satisfied. This is a good price, if you are one of those who like the Transfers. Personally I think I'll stick with any of the Tranz X ones - have had several over the years, never any problems.

I’ve had real good luck ( knock on wood) with my transfer posts in the past. Would for sure grab one if needed…. But if you guys are right and they brake… maybe I get one….

Gotta love the interweb.
Other than the rash of that well documented "last inch of return" issue, what has been the problem with these?
Hell, even that problem was taken care no questions asked.
I've used Transfers on my last four bikes, my wife's last four bikes, and most of my customer builds with a pretty much perfect record.
Guess I'm just the luckiest SOB in the world, huh?

I had a dozen (maybe more?) Fox Transfers on our demo bikes in 2022, and my guess is at least 2/3 of them ended up with the old "doesn't return when you hit the lever" problem. And I personally know plenty of others who had the same problem. So when the post doesn't do half of its job, I like to recommend people NOT buy them regardless of whether they're on sale or not. Compared to other options on the market, they're a POS.

My Fox dropper stuck down and wouldn't return upward unless pulled on. Sent it to Fox twice: first time, they replaced some bushings, sent back the same dropper. It still stuck down. Second time, they said it showed signs of crushing and wanted to know how I was tightening it. I emailed photos of the torque key I use on seat post clamps. They sent a whole new dropper, which went to Craigslist.
I bought a Brand X from Chain Reaction for cheap. It's been perfect.
Sample size of one for me, but it was less reliable over a shorter period of time than even a Crank Brothers Joplin.

I’m done with suspension and droppers that aren’t serviceable by a reasonably competent home mechanic.
However, props to EC for the PSAKnow of a pair of Fischer Ranger 107Ti 189s (new or used) for sale? PM me.

Mine did the wont return the last inch… they fixed it but it came back after a couple of months. The second time made a big day alpine ride pretty shitty. This price is cheaper than what Fox wanted to service it again... So there is that.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Yes, all with the same, well known, issue.
If you got a bunch from the same batch, of course they would all have the same problem.
They had a big batch of droppers that all had, I believe, a defective seal head. I had two myself.
It happens.
At least they fessed up and did everything possible to rectify the problem.
Both times, I sent it in and got it back, perfect, in a week. No questions asked. Problem solved. Perfect ever since.
So one issue. On one batch. Makes a product that has been otherwise reliable for many years, a POS? Really?
Other than that issue, over the last what, 10 years Fox has been making droppers, how many problems have they had?
My sample size has been closer to 50 with this being the only problem.
I wish I could get those results on other products.Last edited by Roxtar; 01-10-2024 at 09:18 AM.

Great when it works, but mine also doesn't return fully.

Opinions on droppers are like opinions on politics. Can't we just all agree the Joplin was shit?

They have the Race Face Turbines (a rebranded Transfer is the rumor) for $109 too in a bunch of sizes.

Not just a rumor, Fox Factory Holding Corp. is the parent company of Race Face.
The RF Turbine R and Turbine SL are the same as Fox Transfer Performance Elite and Fox Transfer SL Performance Elite.
The wholesale price on these models is slashed at many distributors, and they are discounted on Fox’s page as well.
Hard to tell if they are just trying to adjust an overstock of inventory, or if a new model is on its way.
The current model was redesigned and released in 2021.

I was just going to ask, wonder if some changes are coming for the next season and blowing out all the current stock.

FYI, I ordered two discounted Factory Transfers in October at $179 and both had dates of 2021/2022. Both had sticking at the last inch out of the box. I’m not sure if there’s a bunch of old stock floating around, but thought I’d offer my experience. I didn’t feel like sending them into Fox so I just returned.
