    Vertex or Blade

Looking to get my first BC ski pack. Which one would be better? Do the dual ice axe holders come into play on the Vertex vs the single on the Blade? Volume ever become a problem for either?

They both have the same carrying system, volume is only a problem is you run out of room for your crap, and if you plan on carrying ice axes, the lack of holster might suck. Did that help? No, really, I find the large Heli-Pro to be perfect for in-bounds and shallow backcountry jaunts, but it's a huge stretch to get Trekkers and some other goodies in there. I'll probably get just a little bit larger pack. The Blade is pretty darn big though -- I mean, if you plan on carrying harness and a rope and big first aid kit all the time, then it'll work. I don't ever use the external holsters, because I know far too many people who've lost shovel handles when they're on the outside.

That helped a bit. Would you say the Blade would be loose if I did not fill it with enough gear and the skis would flop around? Also what are peoples findings with the zippered top vs the I presume cynch and top flap module?

I love my poacher. You can sinch it up with basically nothing in it. It will still be a good amount of length on your back, but it holds skis perfectly all tightened up. Entrance for the back is great too. when your skis are hooked on you crackheads.

I might have just f'ed up you're decision process but what the hell.

I think I'm gonna go with the blade. Makes a convenient summit or day pack as a side option which the vertex might lack space for.

Personally, I would go with a Heli Pro or something around that size, especially if you are going to be skiing with it in the resort... I have both a Blade and a Heli Pro and I use the H.P. way more. I've found that the Blade is just sort of a goofy size, too big to haul around in bounds, but too small to do any serious touring. Keep in mind that I pack like a girl because you never know what could happen.

I have used my dakine chute for the past 3 years. 2400 cu. is perfect for what i need it for inbounds and out of bounds. i've never wished i would have had smaller. fits all bcgear and a rope/harness perfectly. i've also used the dual axe holders many times. not the pack you want but thought i'd throw that in their to give ya a comparison to a slightly larger dakine pack.
