My wife, who’s from La Jolla, says look at Encinitas Surfboards or Bird Rock Surfshop. We were in La Jolla Shores this summer and went into Surf Divas, which also looked good.

"Knows how to surf and needs equipment" or "Going to school in SD and thinks she wants to be a surfer"?

Living in what part of town and planning on surfing what breaks?

    What’s school?

I usually went to the shop on pearl st, Mitch’s, cuz of proximity. Or I got hand me downs from friends with excessive quivers.

    What school?

I hope she explores the simplified and amazing world of bodysurfing the shorebreaks of La Jolla.

Thanks Mags. She’s surfed exactly 3 times in her life, all lessons in Maui (RIP LAHAINA). She’s going to Point Loma, which literally sits above Sunset Cliffs…. She’s already enrolled in the school’s surf club…. Ahhhhh to be young again. Thanks again guys!

It’s really fun to be SO close to the water. I’d imagine the school’s surf club would have some good rec’s, possibly shops that give discounts, and/or pro deals available.

Have had the best luck with finding wetsuits at Clairmont and Hansen's. Best place(s) for used boards are Progression, Used Boards San Clemente or Craig's list. Can't help with softtops.

Impressed that Mitch's is still going strong. Got my first blank to shape from him in 1971.

I don't surf but the rec for Don Carlos was spot on - the California burrito was great and Dicks Liquor made me laugh as well.
