Just out of curiosity, doesn't USPS do COD (cash on delivery)? Works great here in Yurp, and only adds ~10$ to thye shipping. Often the parcel is insured as well, so should work (that is if you both live in the States).

About a year or so ago I took a punt on a mag that was newish to the board,spreadeagle.
After a couple of back and forth emails,he was nothing but helpful in regs to sorting out an international shipping quote etc.
It sounds a bit naive I guess,but it was those little things that gave me the gut feeling to just go for it.
I paypal'd him and within a day Spreadeagle had em on the way with a tracking URL in my inbox.
Everything turned out 100% boards showed up exactly as described.
So yeah it's a little belated and off topic but props to Spreadeagle,I'd have no hesitation in dealing with him again.err huh huh spaghetti?

Well I decided to just pull the trigger and trust the dude, paypal-ing him today. I'll post back with what happens.
