Inet Access Problem - Need Tech Help

Looking for some techie help with a glitch on my XP laptop -

Normally, I run a hardwired Verizon DSL modem networked over CAT5 in my house. Went on a trip last week and converted the laptop to run across the hotel's WiFi network instead - wireless NIC, Netstumbler software, etc.

Worked fine - got on the plane - came home.

Re-inabled the LAN setting, plugged the laptop into the DSL modem to email some trip pictures - and NO GO - the DSL hardwire connection is not detected. I am sending query packets - but not getting a reply - although I do show an IP address and Subnet mask ID. But no default, DNS, etc.

I ran the XP "fix-it" program, removed the wifi card, reinstalled the DSL software, reverted to last known good config - nada.

Any and all ideas are appreciated.

    power cycle the dsl modem?

turn everything off for ten secs, then cycle it back on, working your way from the wall up to the computer.

get rid of all your network settings, and start over?

    ...that's all i got.

    Control Panel -> Internet Options
You think it's for Internet Explorer but there's a Connections tab for setting up how to connect to the Internet. You should be using a LAN (Local Area network) connection to the Internet.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

long shot... but make sure DHCP is enabled on the ethernet nic. The hotels DHCP lease could be fukin you.

also what IP are you getting? This will tell us if DHCP fails too

    in a command window try
    ipconfig /renew

    or ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

If problems persist make sure your wireless is disabled, it can cause interference with the wired connection.
