For the record, PayPal and Venmo both suck. And yes, I know they are both the same company. I use PayPal because I already have it from back when I used to buy the occasional item from eBay. The only reason I still use it is for megjillions. I never hooked it up to my bank account, only my CC. I heard too many horror stories about eBay and PayPal to ever want to link it to the place where my paycheck goes. I don't have multiple bank accounts. And constantly moving money around seems like a pain. I also don't do any banking from my phone. Therefore something like Venmo which is linked to a bank account and designed for mobile use is the opposite of what I think is safe. A [mobile] phone number should never be part of any portion of a financial transaction. It wasn't designed to be secure. I already have to keep my credit rating stuff frozen because of some ID theft nibbles. So I'm on edge as it is

The nice thing about Venmo is you don’t actually need to link your bank account to it to use it. I link a credit or debit card when I need to make the transaction and then after the transactions complete I unlink the credit card. So unless I’m actually using it, there is nothing for anybody to steal.
