All things considered, it's looking good. HS was 55cm at the top. The impending dump should really help things out. Hopefully West will be spinning by next weekend. Checked out Alpy as well and it's in much rougher shape.

Just got back from west. Creek beds are still open but other than that coverage was good. If you can get there tomorrow it will be nice with a layer of fresh. Lots of skier compaction today.

Drove over Snoqualmie last night in a/the blizzard. I’m used to it so it’s not really a big deal, but the semis basically change “lanes” randomly, and slowly. It always comes as a bit of a shock early in the season, though. Same with all the shitty cars driving 30 MPH with their hazards going. It snows and people lose their fucking marbles.
I also kinda forget how nice it is now with the lane addition, lights, etc. I’ll like the extension to Easton as well. Looking ahead:

I overheard someone say that the lack of I 90 plow drivers at the Pass is because a bunch of the older drivers retired or quit because they didn't want to learn how to operate and maintain the new equipment. Makes some sense. Anyone else hear that?

Shortage of snowplow drivers hampers states as storms arrive

State transportation departments say there are several reasons for a lack of snowplow drivers: the record low unemployment rate, an aging workforce and an increased demand for diesel mechanics and CDL drivers in other industries. Private companies can also be more nimble — raising salaries and offering bonuses to drivers — than state agencies, which usually have to get legislative approval to change salaries.

“Everyone’s sort of competing for the same group of workers and private companies can often offer higher salaries than the state government,” said Barbara LaBoe, spokesperson for Washington state’s Department of Transportation.

Along with the competitive market, LaBoe said Washington also lost 151 winter operations workers who did not want to comply with the state’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
In Washington, LaBoe said some roads and mountain passes will be closed longer than usual during and after significant storms and some roads may not receive the same level of service.

Brief or isolated storms won’t cause problems in most states, in part because departments can move drivers and equipment around based on the weather forecast.

“If we have a series of storms over several days or if it hits the whole state at once, (the shortage) is going to become more evident because we don’t have as deep a bench,” LaBoe said.

Washington is still short about 150 seasonal and full-time workers, but things have improved since October when it was short 300 workers.

Has anyone heard of this was inbounds or outside the boundary? NWAC says it was outside the ski area but news outlets are just saying it happened at “Crystal Mountain”.

As a general rule of thumb, NWAC is a more reliable source than news outlets.
Its being reported as Silver Basin, part of which is in their permit boundary (Southback) and part of it is just beyond.
