22 Blue - Looking ahead to the New (aka Fuck Summer (aka Tahoe Thread))

If you’re in Kings Beach there’s always the Lone Eagle at the Hyatt in Incline. It’s not cheap but nice environment right on the lake (sounds like that’s what you’re going for?).
I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.

    Dreary day post

On February 12th the anniversary of being caught in a avalanche on Flagpole that I was lucky to survive, I wanted to do something special, was going to return to the seen of the crime which I did the following day, but this ended up being a special solo day of reflection for me.

Below your price threshold, I'd guess. But we liked Freshies, but haven't been since pre covid. Had a nice pizza at Blue Dog, near Raleys, last week. High ceilings, not too crowded.

^ Wow, you weren't kidding about reflection with all that calm water!

Glad you made it, glad you keep the moment for your own contemplation, and glad you're still here to provide so much stoke.

This is the closest I can come these days to reciprocate, but first tracks are first tracks, right!?!?

    Cheers!

Sticky shmoo at the only Palisades in all of Tahoe. Bring paste wax.

Definitely open to non-Heavenly spots as well. We're on the west side of the lake, so it's all fair game.

I have enjoyed a number of the beers from South Lake Brewing, but have yet to visit their taproom.

I took my lady at the time to Himmel Haus a few years back and dug the vibe; great German beer selection, although my vegetarian spatzle was served cold...

Naked Fish sushi was solid last time I went (but that's been at least 10 years).

Trying a new thing of keeping a tiny spray bottle of ceramic coating and a handkerchief on me. Slicker than eel shit, but it's expensive and rubs off kinda fast.

Heavenly was surprisingly good today from 9-12. It was snowing pretty hard and by 11AM when it shut off about 3" had fallen above 8500'. Skied onto every lift. Hopefully this is the beginning of the spring lack-of-crowds season.

The 2nd pic was some sort of fire between the Cal base and the gondola. Controlled burn? Not sure because I was hearing a lot of sirens.

Yeah it was a controlled burn. Just got back from hiking a lap up heave after hours with the dog and surprisingly good was not an adjective I was thinking of but I barely got above 8..7k

The sound track fit perfectly with the run. Well done.

don't worry about the cost, the ceramics are good for the lake and our overall health.

Do you have exact brand to recommend. The velcro on lower Granite yesterday was crazy bad.
    Thanks

Zardoz Notwax wipe-on is pretty amazing in sticky conditions.

(Do not use on any skis that may later be used with climbing skins.)

I use the Dynamic Wax Ghost and Armoured Lab Snow Premium.

I think any brand would work, but these people sponsor snowskaters, so I buy their stuff.

Nice, TahoeBC. Trying to figure out exactly what line that is. Is that the prominent cooler? Hard for me to tell from that perspective and with somewhat of a midwinter snowpack. Always wondered about that line, but figured a pfd would be a good idea in case of getting flushed into the lake.

Their website says that after a couple runs it should be gone.

But I wouldn't risk it. From what I've heard, it's best to do a hot wax + scrape before putting the skins back on.

I'm not sure if this was discussed in the Tahoe thread already but I'm nervous about the Sunshine Protection Act (eg getting rid of Daylight Saving) and the effect on ski resorts opening on time. My whole game plan the last 5 years is get to the mountain early, ski my laps and get home to beat traffic. I think this change puts that game plan at risk. Thoughts?
