    Greater Burlington Triathlon RR

I competed in my last triathlon for the season yesterday. It was on olympic distance race .9S/25.3B/6.2R held in Shelburne, VT.

The day started off beautifully, sunny in the early morning hours. But that quickly changed. On the ride to the race the wind began to pick up and then the rain came. But the time the race started at 8:00 it was raining heavily at times and the winds were still kicking up pretty good. Which made for a tough swim.

I finished the .9mi swim in 31 min, about 3.5 min longer than I though. The waves kept pushing me off course to the right and made it tough to get a good line on the second bouy. I was 41st out of the water.

The bike was fairly uneventful. It was a rolling course with a few decent sized climbs and very few flats or long decents. The wet roads made cornering a bit worrisome but I managed to stay upright the whole time. I put in a 1:17 and change bike split for 13th fastest on the day.

The run, my new nemesis. I was dreadfully slow on the run compared to my training times. I was shooting for a 43-45 minute 10K. I don't know if I was just tired to what but I ended up with a 48 and change 10K, basically a full minute slower per mile than what I have done in training.

On the plus side for me were my transitions. I had a 2 minute T1 and a 57 second T2, so no lost time for me there.

So for an overall I did a 2:40:27. I had been shoting for a 2:30, but considering the weather conditions I am pretty happy with this result as it was good enough for a 22nd over all finish and 3rd in my age group.

Nice job Vin... I probably would pass out and drown after .2 miles of swimming.

    good job vin!

my wife did her first relay (bike portion) of the Timberman held in NH which is a half. She did pretty well. It was my first tri as a spectator and it was fun to watch as well. Tempted to attempt a mini, but running and I are just not friends...now a swim/bike event I could try.
