K2 Seth Vicious Vs. Volkl Mantra
I am looking to get a new pair of skis this season that I can use as my pretty much everyday ski. I live in the PNW and ski mostly Hood. I am most seriously considering the 179 K2 Seth Vicious or the 177 Volkl Mantra. However armada and line also offer possibilities.
I am 6'0 tall, and weigh 165 lbs. I ski fairly fast and aggressive. I like to ski mostly off the trails and B.C. but spend a little time on the groomers. I mainly am looking for a ski that is twin-tipped (mantra is not true twin tip but good enough) so that I can still occasionally venture into the park. Is stable at high speeds and has enough float for powder days and B.C. but can still handle a little hardpack and crud.
From what i have gathered so far I am leaning towards the Seth Vicious 179. It seems to fulfill most everything I am looking for and sounds a little livlier and better in the bumps than the Mantra. I have not had a chance to ski either and appreciate any input given. Any other ski ideas are also welcome.Pray for Powder

On the upper right hand corner you will find a function called "SEARCH".
That way, you can avoid to be devoured.
Have a nice day.Last edited by Meathelmet; 08-15-2005 at 12:53 PM.

I don't really care what the graphics look like I buy skis for performance not for looks.Pray for Powder

Mantra will be better on hardpack than the Seths. Unless you are spending quite some time in the park I'd get a longer set of planks. You are taller and heavier than me and 179 is about as short as I'd want unless I was looking for Park or tight trees.

the fact that you didn't get devoured is almost incredible, JONG. buy the mantras. shit i haven't skied either one, demo them, buy what the sales guy says will go with your jacket.

I actually plan on a demo. I posted this thread to find out people's experience with either of these skis and any other skis that I haven't considered. And for the record the salesperson actually said I should match the skis to my eyecolor not my clothes.

Buy the Mantra in a 184 for all mountain and get the Vicious in a 179 for park. Or if you have to choose get the Vicious, the Mantra isn't good for park.

Unless you're skiing more park then anything else, I'd go with 189 seths. They're pretty soft(unless they are much different than last yrs pistols) and they have a huge twintip. At 6"0 tall you'll want the 189s in the future.
And oh yeah. Bigger is better.

Mantra comes 177 and 184; SV 179 and 189.
Mantra has slight curve at tail but SV is a full twin tip.
I found the 179 SV nice; the 177 Mantra too turny or squiggly; 184 Mantra was sweet but I bought the 179 SV. It's great in pow, bumps, and I ran gates with it and timed well. I'd like the 189 SV to smooth things out a super speeds and for more confidence for air/hucks.
No real wrong decison to be made. And I like the graphics on both skis: understated and overstated.Every man dies. Not every man lives.

at least he got his post in tech talk...geeze.
I can see where this gets old and all, but come on, this is summer. There's nothing else going on here besides threads bitching about Jonny Mosely selling out again.

I understand the old "What skis should I get?" question with two skis that have already been fairly well discussed might be lame to some but that's why the title is "K2 Seth Vicious Vs. Volkl Mantra" , makes it pretty apparent what the thread is about. So if you don't want to hear about it, then why would you click on the thread?
Anyways, appreciate the input. Moneywise I am definitely only buying one pair of planks this year. I think for what I am looking to do sounds like the Vicious will suit me better, still making for a decent park ski with good all-mountain ability. The snow up here is crappy right now so probably awhile until I will be able to demo anything. I want to try both the 179 and the 189 and see how much of a difference it will make in stability and jumps.Pray for Powder

I skied the 189 pistols for a year a half, got a chance to ski the Vicious this spring -- they're sweet.
