I love that in the team section it has in Sarah Burkes' bio that she is making her ski movie debut this year. I guess that until you ski on Volkl's you don't really exist.
Move along nothing to see here.

I can't wait to get my new Gotamas. Soooo sexy!
Except for the white bases...not that I ever crash and lose a ski...nope...never..."I knew in an instant that the three dollars I had spent on wine would not go to waste."

08-10-2005, 12:33 PM #11The 190cm Gotama's I saw in NZ had black bases. The smaller sizes were white. Not sure if this will be universal or not.

08-17-2005, 09:13 PM #13I noticed that last years karmas had the base colors inversed half way through the season. The mantras I've noticed also had orange bases, but the web shows black?

Heard intresting stuff about 05-06 Gotamas.
One dude that has ridden all years (budha, calligraph and new one) said that the new ski suck.Well, not suck, but is inferior to the old ones.
The reason is apparently that they have removed the titanal layer(well, metall anyway) and replaced it with a carbon fibre one.
The result is poorer torsional rigidity and thus poorer edgehold. Some talk about the ski being even chatterier on ice than before. Ski is supposedly a bit stiffer longitude wise, wich makes it a more dificult "carver" on soft spring slop or new snow on the slopes. The tip has a tendency to go straight, instead of bend (wich the old explosives are famous off...).
But as said, theese are only talk, not fact.Well, exept for the guy who has skied them.
Anyway.
The floggings will continue until morale improves.

There is no carbon fiber in a Gotama.

And btw, the first version (black budha)did not have the titanal top edges. The 2nd year, calligraph got them.

I love my 03/04s, with the exception of the well-noted sidewall and topsheet issues, they make me way happy. I blew the walls on mine last season after about 30 days, and local folks here told me that Volkl wouldn't warrantee becuase it looked like user damage rather than defect, so Mr AG plugged it up with some epoxy, and they're almost good as new. They will serve well as my touring ski this season.
However, the new Goats are sexy. Like Angelina Jolie sexy. Topsheet is sweet, ABS sidewalls look burl. Its nice to hear that they also have a thicker base. If they ski the way the old ones did, these structural improvements should put the skis over the top, IMO.
They have just been chillin in my kitchen all summer, giving me come-hither looks. Its breaking my heart to keep telling them "Just wait until November".
