Thread: Sh!t F#ck P!ss!!!

I was hoping to snag an Airborne Thunderbolt bike(they were running a special, the frame built up with full Ultegra for $1100), but I checked the site today to find out that they had sold out of my size(s) of the bike. Fuck. I had saved up all but $10 that I needed to buy the bike, and now I'm not sure what bike to look at. I want to buy a road bike(preferably with 105 or Ultegra level components) and my max budget is around $1300 or so. This bike fit the bill perfectly, I could even set up new road shoes and clipless pedals for a killer deal too.

Any suggestions for manufacturers or bikes to look out for? Thanks, just had to vent a bit.

You could get a Felt or a Fuji in that price range with those components, at least I think so.

Exactly. Felt F70, carbon fiber seatstay, shimano 105. retails around $1100 I think. That's the bike my girlfriend is lusting over.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check out those brands, although it may be worth a call to Airborne to see if there is a mistake on the website, since I find it hard to believe that they sold out of 4 different bike combos(54 and 56cm frames with Double and 54 and 56cm with Triple) overnight. Oh well.

Has anyone here heard anything about Iron Horse road bikes, I can get one with almost full Ultegra for $1,080. I searched and found lots of stuff about their mountain bikes, and it seemed mostly positive aside from the big corporation deal. Any info on it would be great, since I really don't feel like losing out on yet another great deal. Thanks.

as always i'd try to get on one to make sure you like the fit. with road bikes the fit really matters. you can fluff fit a bit more on mountain bikes.

For that kind of coin, I'd buy a used road bike. You can get a much higher-end frame that way.

I second the used road bike idea. Road bikes seem way safer to go used than mtn bikes. Any abuse, or excessive wear is easy to spot.
My current road ride was a steal of a deal, less than two months old, under 200 km on it just over 1/2 retail price. Some fool traded it for a mtn bike. Yours truely got the call from a buddy at the LBS " Can you come to the store now!?" Out I walk with a pristine Argon 18 Krypton.

Thats what I said when I was playing PS2 at my friend's house last night and missed the auction for an IF road frame that went for $295 with a CK headset, carbon fork, and thompson post.

I'd like to buy a used road bike, but the "local bike shop" is about 45 minutes to an hour away, and its not even truly local, its part of a chain of stores. So that kind of limits my options in terms of being able to get to know people at a shop and getting info on used bikes if they come in. Does anyone else know of any otehr methods for tracking down a used bike(I don't do eBay)? Thanks.

And Roo, when you work all summer and don't buy anything, it isn't that hard to save up, not having expenses rules.

That bike seems super nice and like a killer deal too, does anyone know anything about them? They seem to have gotten rave reviews from people that have ridden them. Is that too good to be true? Would any Boulder Mags be willing to check it out for me and let me know firsthand what kind of shape its in before I pull the trigger?

that bike is bad ass...one thing I can advise you is that if you know a frame fits you, measure the top tube length on it so you can compare it. If it's a sloping top tube or a compact frame, measure in a straight line (virtual tt). That way you can get an idea of fit without trying it out.

What is the rest of the frame material?

If it's the right size, I'd buy it in a second...I'd check it out for you but won't be in boulder for awhile probably.

The frame is Aluminum and CF. I'll be sure to take some measurements too. It does look like a killer bike for less than I thought I'd end up spending which is always a plus. Thanks for the offer to check it out too.
