    Mt. of the Holy Cross (14,005 ft.) TR

    A little late posting this one but oh well.
    Stats:
    Miles: 12.6
    Vertical: 5,625 ft
    Vertical boarded: about 1,200 ft.
    Duration: Forgot

    Scott and I headed to Holy Cross after work about 2 weeks ago on Friday and we hiked into the creek to set up camp. The next morning we headed for the summit at 4:00 a.m.

    Scott became really sick during our climb. His eye swelled shut, and he kept saying he was going to puke. For this reason I decided to stay with him the whole time and not ski the Angelica Couloir, but descend to snowfield on the NW ridge. We still made the summit though.

    The good news was as we descended Scott felt better, although I gave him a lot of crap for not bringing his board. The hike out got interesting as a storm came in and we were running over the pass to get back down to the car.

    Another great trip in this endless season!

    I climb with Scott a lot. He's been sick 3 times in the mountains, but he always makes it up... Sucks for him though.

    I have an old climbing partner that used to peak EVERYTIME at 10.2k. He was so consistent, you could set your altimeter to it. He spent alot of time not summiting and just puking.

    Very nice pics. My girlfriend gets the same thing (that's not an insult). We went for Gray's and Torreys last summer and she could hardly stand up straight past 12,000. I have never had altitude sickness, but it sounds like a real bitch. Looks like you had a fun trip, anyway.

    I'm wondering if your bud has ever tried Diamox/Acetazolamide for AMS?

    I'm pretty susceptible, and though I've never been up to 14k, it's helped me tremendously when going from 20 ft. above sea level to 12k with no time to acclimate.

    May wanna check it out. BTW, tried Ginkgo a few times as per someones "holistic" suggestion, didn't do shit.

    Well, I guess I'm in the 7 of 21, because it didn't help me at all. The Diamox worked wonders though.

    Maybe I'll revisit the Ginkgo on a future trip to double check.
