It was OK. What was the actors story? I couldn't believe how unhealthy he looked. Did they pick him because he was already skinny or did he lose a bunch of weight for the role (until he was almost dead)?

That was Christian Bale (Batman Begins, American Psycho). He lost the weight for the role.

it was ok? I thought it was a brilliant film and christain bale was amazing. When asked how he lost all that weight he said, " Ijust didnt eat"

They say he was 120 for that role and then got up to 195 for batman in the same year.

Jennifer Jason Leigh was great too.

Sure. it's a good movie that's worth renting. It didn't blow me away or anything, but the acting was good. I don't even remember how it ends. I'm still amazed with Bale. He must have had to completely rebuild all his muscles afterwards. He looked like he could have passed out from just getting up too quick.

meh. i went into it thinking it would be great, maybe i got my hopes up too high. just seemed like a lot of metaphor for a pretty dumb reason. it doesn't really fit my feelings of the movie perfectly, but i keep thinking 'cop out' for some reason.

let's hear it for physically meeting the role though. impressive enough on it's own. you know Christian Bale is the kid from Empire of the Sun?

Saw The Machinist last week, and then saw Batman Begins yesterday. Holy transformation! Insane. I'm so impressed with Christian Bale.

As for the Machinist - I thought it was incredibly well done and well written, though I'm not sure I enjoyed watching it. It was so dark, and so painful to watch in a way - just to see someone so tormented. Though I liked the ending, frankly. Definitely took me for a loop.

Bale's normal weight is apparently about 180, and he went to 120 for Machinist, and then to 220 for Batman. Incredible.
