How is rent out there? Any apt complexes? Just need a 1 bdrm if I get the job.

the rent will make you feel like you're stealing. easy drive to both Boulder and Denver. skiing access is easy.

I think most of the hogs consumed in the US are slaughtered there.

Never heard of any pig plants in L-mont.I used to work for a stainless steel dist. company that serviced all of the ConAgra plants in the Front range.Cattle & Lamb death camps are in Greeley, very smelly there!!!!!Butterball Turkey plant is in Longmont, not as smelly, but on a hot day downwind, not so nice.Think about Niwot maybe.

Longmont has a nice pungent odor to it, but it has easy access to freshly slaughtered pigs and that turkey processing plant really gets funky during those 80 degree November days. Other than that it's a nice town. I like the Lefthand brewpub there, the sawtooth ale is good.

Don't forget, if you move to Boulder, Eldora can have its moments for a little ski hill, and it's only 35 minutes up the canyon. I'm surprised noone has mentioned this yet. Avoid the f**ked up commute to Summit County on the weekends and keep it local instead. Of course, don't forget to bring your patchouli.

I have a relative that works at Amgen.. I went in there..its pretty freaky..looks like giant science lab..who'd thunk?

They also Live in Longmont..seems like a nice community, but I am and old 33, so maybe not what you are looking for. It did seem that there was just about everything in the town as far as ammenities, etc.. and about 45 minuted to Estes park..a bit further to the ski areas though.

You forgot to mention that Eldora gets half the snow, has half the vert, and gets twice the wind of other CO resorts. Just kidding it can have its moments, but if you can't get the $100 pass through CU it's not really worth the pass price.

There are some very nice parts of Longmont (as well as shitty), but for sure Boulder is a nicer place with much more of a happening scene. In the morning, travel time from Boulder to the Amgen plant is probably 15-20 minutes assuming you are north of downtown Boulder.

Amgen has plants in both Boulder and Longmont.

Screw the D-town city dwellers, boulder hippies, and suburbanites! I live just outside of Longmont aka Wrongmont, and love it. It's quiet, peaceful and just far enough from the city life. Yeah, we have our share of rednecks, tweakers, farmers, and south of the borders, but I would much rather live up here than deal with all the people in Denver and Boulder.

Easy access to some great climbing, mtn. biking, skiing, and even water sports. Rent is much cheaper than Denver, Boulder, or Ft. fun. Within easy driving distance to the city if you so desire to head down that way. I like being able to look out my back windown and see nothing but corn fields, lakes, and a golf course. I like sitting on my front porch and looking up at Longs Peak. I like driving 35 miles to go skiing. The 25 minute drive to Hall Ranch for world class mountain biking ain't too bad either.

See you in longmont in a couple months?

A big thanks to everyone for their comments. I'll definitely take all of them into consideration. I doubt if I have the lung power (or leg power since the ACL surgery) to keep up with CO maggots, especially iskibc! But I'll work on it. I'll post an update about the interview when I get it.

What ski area is 35 miles away?

    B)

Edit: Just reread Jax's post on Eldora being 35 miles away. How is that place? Anything is better than my local Wed night ski haunt, Mt Creek.

I have to do a little research to see how big the plant is. I'm actually around that age too and into a laid back town life, so I'm sure I would fit the bill.

I take it that it's pretty flat around there since people are talking about pig farms, corn fields, and golf courses.

I obviously don't know b/c I've never been there, but watch this:

Compare Longmont's flatness to Saddle Brook's..
Now, compare Saddle Brook's proximity to the Ramapo Mtns..
And compare Longmont's proximity to the Rocky Mountains.
Finally, compare the Ramapo Mtns to the Rockies.

    (:

Yeah, I know that's not where you were thinking with that comment, but I couldn't resist..

Eldora is roughly 35 minutes, not miles, away from Boulder. Like I said, it can have it's moments. Probably not many people on this board from CO ski there on a regular basis. Most people I know either love it or hate it. It can be firm, wind scoured, icy on one day and then when there is an upslope storm there can be one to two feet the next day, though it doesn't happen often enough. There are some diehard locals, Nedheads, however, that will never ski anyplace else (hence my patchouli comment earlier; no offense to anyone, hopefully).

I live in Boulder, and my main resort haunts are A-Basin and Loveland. During the weekdays, I can get to Loveland in just over an hour if the roads are clear. YMMV

    Good luck on your interview!
