    Another "what bike?" thread

So my 2012 Rocky Mountain Altitude 770 is getting a little long in the tooth. Everything needs work on it, and I want to go lighter and tighter, so to speak.

I want to use my non-Boost 30mm carbon rims from Light Bicycles, but there are some adapters that can let you use these in Boost bikes. I want to stay with a 6" travel bike (not going back) and am open to 1x as long as I can tweak my gear ratios for long brutal Idaho/ Montana uphills (28 front chainring probably).

Budget is $4000. Size medium for the most part, 30" inseam.

On the list are a couple of Ibis HD3s from Pinkbike-
https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/2137503/ which has been checked out by reputable friend, I could get it for $4000-4100, but it has been used as demo bike in Moab but then fully rebuilt.

and this one: which I just found: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/2122308/

I could get a new Niner 27.5+ at a decent price from local shop as I do some bike advocacy work(need a quote) but I am dubious. Who has ridden one of these? http://www.ninerbikes.com/RIP-9-RDO-3-STAR-XT-275

and here's the old bomber AltitudeClick image for larger version.

I'd vote for the green HD3. Try to negotiate out the stans wheels and get closer to $3k.

    They are sweet

I had never heard of these before you posted the links, but now they are showing up everywhere I look. Good price point for sure. Have you ridden one?

    Carbon Patrol?

I ride the Scout and love the hell out of it, and my friends who ride the Patrol (who want the 6") are likewise in love.

Build kit is sweet, but it's outside my budget (just a bit). Maybe if this one : https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/2122308/ (he's now asking $3200 without wheels) falls through...

Buy the bike, sell the wheelset, use the wheels you got, and you're under budget!
But seriously, as everyone says these days, any of these bikes are awesome. I rode a bunch last year and what really ended up making my decision was the playful feel of the Transitions.

Do you have some sort of dirt on how the altitude will be different this year?

Get the yt. I love my Capra. At the price point performance and components are hard to beat. Check out canyon as well. Not sure how available both are in trumpland.

A little. Not much info yet, but it will be low and slack (with a ride 4 chip). All cartridge bearings, full carbon front and rear. Rear pivots like the new Element/Instinct (hidden bolts).
    Still 150r, 160 front.
    Single ring only.
    Coilover compatible. (Stock likely air)
A little more in here, including spy pics...

Thanks. Lemme see how my offer for built-up HD3 pans out first. Why are you selling it?

Not quite enduro enough for me, lol. Looking to switch for something more DH oriented..... or maybe I should just buy a fanny pack

New bike incoming next week. Thanks all for input, especially Kai_ski who prompted me to make a good deal for the green one!

    Soon we ride!

    New pics!
Not sure about purple/teal. Maybe it will come in two colorways.

Looks like a ride 9 chip.
    Much stiffer looking rocker arm.

DPS, but after riding it again yesterday I'm thinking I may swap to the X2 and hold on to it.

Sweet. Now get yourself a dropper and reduce that stack height! Maybe get an X2 while you're at it.

It has a KS Lev dropper post, fully shrunk in the photo before I put it in the shed. And you might be right about the stack height, but I gotta start somewhere. First ride is Saturday. It's about 27#. What is an X2?
