I would assume you could make some sort of rope tow out of some old car rims and a lawnmower engine. Or a garage door opener maybe? Too slow, perhaps. A 5hp briggs & stratton would be the ticket methinks.

My dad would be all over this. My advice is to seek the assistance of an old, retired local mechanic who skis. The older they are, the greater chances they've seen some ghetto ways to get skiers up a hill.
