The same company that runs OR also runs Interbike, which has said it won't consider Utah as an option for future shows. Although interbike is always in Vegas, so it probably doesn't make much difference.

I'm willing to bet the average Mormon Utah'ians are happy to see OR go away. I bet they'd like to see all the outdoor industry (BD, etc) pack up and leave as well.

Hope it gets a lot of public play to have an effect. All these stories should emphasize the $ figure it brings the state in revenue which is something like ~$60M iirc. I doubt the mor(m)ons here will care as they probably hate all the OR sinner types anyway.

The Mormons would be in the trash heap of history if they weren't skillful at commerce with the sinners. Picked a fucked up place to start their nation (really? It's salt water? Oh, look out, locusts!), but it became an awesome trading post for those traveling west. The governor has to know how much tourism brings into that state, which has to be very substantial.

They should have it in Londonderry VT.

Bunny, Salt Lake is crawling with GS types now. Perhaps they don't want a bunch of stinky hippies with tattoos running around there anymore?

They should look into hosting a world-wide stripper convention or maybe the annual porno awards. At least that way they'd have better quality people visiting their state.

Maybe OR will get replaced by a big Oil and Gas convention?

If so, the convention goers could rent atv's and ride around Bears Ears.

You would be wrong. The "average" Mormon may stick to their own, but their not stupid on commerce. The ones fighting Bears Ear are ranchers out in the sticks who are willing outsized influence. The average SLC resident isn't even Mormon.

According to unverified stats on the internet, about 50% SLC's population is mormon....and 64% of the state.

comparative to other religious affiliations .. I would say the "average" SLC resident to absolutely mormon.

Doesn't change my point that the average SLC Mormon doesn't want the outdoor industry to leave the state.

Salt Lake County election results suggest otherwise: https://slco.org/clerk/electionsEK/r...16General.html

Just an interesting bit of gossip I heard from someone pretty well tapped in to the Utah Legislature, despite all being kooky mormons they're super interested in marijuana legalization because they love sin taxes.

Work with a group that does some research in how marijuana companies manage their money, so hey maybe Utah will get legal weed and OR will come back. (lol)

If Utah legalizes the wacky tabacky I think that will open the door for federal legalization.
