    Uinta Avalanche Involving Jeremy Jones?

Snowboarder in his 40's caught in a slide, breaking both of his legs, but no name...

    https://www.ksl.com/?sid=42856229&nid=148

And then this came up on my feed:

Seems like some pretty poor decision making by a very experienced guy if it's the same incident. I can't find any further info about it though, anyone know anything?

Ironic the guy that got buried was the same one that decided to turn his beacon off due to low batteries!

He is a urban snowboarder, are you getting him confused with the big mountain snowboarder Jeremey Jones?

One click on that photo and you can see it's not the tahoe JJ.

Yeah. Appears to be the guy who starred in all the Mack Dawg Productions films (which I was a big fan of BITD). Not the guy who is related to the proprietors of our dear forum here.

    Q. How many snow boarders does it take to rustle up three triple AAA batteries?

    A. More than 11?

So the danger was high/extreme that day... I mean at some point it's like what did you expect to happen? Vibes for them involved but that decision making has to be revisited.

    Yep. Wtf!?

Hope his gofundme benefits from the confusion. Looks like a lot of medical work.

that's a good point, they have been veeeery deferential to local guide services in not identifying them / their roles in these things. thinking that fatality on whitesnake.

When they got to their new location, they began to assess the slope. The group was divided in their feelings about the slope, particularly because it was a little steeper. With this in mind, they positioned a few riders in safe locations in case of an avalanche.

    Interesting decision making.

Seriously so.... Evidence of why going out in a huge group is probably not the best idea. Too easy for all the lemmings to follow each other off the cliff.

Not to mention, given that context, he then decides to hit a drop!

I wonder how many people donated thinking it was TGR Jeremy Jones?

And of the two guys they send out to test the slope, one had turned off his beacon, and the other enters the slope by dropping a small cliff.

That's some fucking brilliance right there.

    ^this

Did he turn off the beacon in case it got even more dangerous later?

Or in case he needed to search for one of his crew when the inevitable happened and one of them got buried?

weird this story creeps up ,a week later... I mentioned it in general discussion then ,because the danger was pretty high still in the backcountry...and this story would be a eye opener for the noobs who never check the forecast. I even mention it to our safety guru, Craig here in SLC,bu the didn't respond either.

Would a Jew jump into a Gas Chamber???? I guess ...No;but skier/boarders jump into some gnarly death days in the backcountry..at least they get buried ,after , or as, they are dying.

Some tough decision making out there..or is it tough?
