Buckethead's middle name should be frenetic. In the TGR spirit of wandering off topic, here;s one of his less frenetic ones. The fun starts about 3:50

It was a joke not a joke. He'd never fit with what y'all are posting, jazz fusion just is a different animal. But I have never seen anyone play individual notes faster than him. Widely recognized as such.

One of the musical highlights of my life was seeing Di Meola, McLaughlin, and De Lucia at the Beacon Theater. Steve Morse solo acoustic opening. Holy fucking shit that was amazing. Morse joined them for an encore. Insane.

Saw that one at Davies Symphony Hall in SF. Was a big Dregs fan so stoked to see the younger Morse play with the crusty old-timers. This thread will not be complete without some Mahavishnu:

Yeah, I was a big dregs fan too, was as stoked to see him solo acoustic as I was the trio. Whole thing was mind blowing.

aggressive, technical music can trace as many roots back to fusion as it can to bands thought as the forerunners of "metal", etc.

Buster wins the thread with Zappa, Vai.

The singing stops around 2:12 and then the guitar picks up from there.

Daaaaaamn! I got a whole bunch of Bickethead and Praxis stuff, and this got me looking for some of his newer stuff since I've been out of the loop. Dude might have the biggest catalog of music ever!
