    Oh yea - was thinking about that album/song yesterday. Here's Monkey Time, which was released in 1971

    Love his music, except for the disco years

    No love for John McLaughlin?

    That band could take me way out there. So much good music from the 70's.

    No one would ever give John the nickname "slow hand".

    Good god there is some bad shit in this thread. There are a few gems in here, and anything by ABBA is not one of them. Nothing wrong with ABBA if you are trying to get in some girls pants, same as the OP's Brandi, but it's shit compared to some of the great stuff that came out in the early 70's ( since his thread no longer appears to be about 1972).

    Anything on Led Zeppelin IV, not to mention Who's Next or Quadrophenia, is infinitely better.

    Pretty much agree with this. Wandering off a bit from the hard rock, I always liked this from Quicksilver Messenger Service:

    Toss in a little Alvin Lee:

    Buddy started the thread with "Brandy", it wasn't about hard rock from the start. More like, kinda cheesy but somehow still good shit from a goofy era. Some might say Abba fits that description better than Quicksilver or TYA.

    Yet argument for 1971:

    Couple decades later a guy I knew used "One of These Days" to prove the existence of back-masking: cued up the 3:00 mark and played it "backwards" in his "specially-modified" tape deck and got out of about a semester of homework IIRC.

    Yeah but really, Brandy? Abba? Cheesy, yes. Somehow still good? ...not so much. I didn't like either of those then and they don't stir great memories, either.

    Thoughts on this song? I listen and think I was born in the wrong era.
    What was it like in 1972? Were all the songs this cool?
    The OP was about some epiphany he had about an era he missed, if "kinda cheesy but somehow good shit from a goofy era" is worthy of an epiphany, then yes I agree.

    The early 70's was far from a goofy era, as some of the best albums of all time was from the "goofy era" (see above}

    If this is about sing-a-long AM radio, then the choices listed are "this cool". Don't get me wrong, I like "The Wreck of the Ella Fitzgerald" as much as he rest, but era defining, "this cool" music it's not.

    My favorite 8 track was Can't Buy a Thrill - Steely Dan, followed closely by Countdown to Ecstasy. I really, really liked Bodhisattva. I played that song over and over and over. Skunk Baxter was/is an incredible lead. Loved those albums.
