Season Recap- Chasing Epic in Pictures

Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to start a business (Chasing Epic) that allows me to travel all over the western US, both with customers and to scout locations. Instead of making this a self-serving post about Chasing Epic, I wanted to share some of my favorite shots from the past year.

    January- St. George

February- Sedona and Canon City, CO

    April- St. George, UT

    May- Fruita and Grand Junction

    June- Angel Fire, NM

July- Crested Butte and Gunnison, CO

August- Park City, UT and Eagle, CO

    September- Crested Butte, CO

    October- St. George, UT

    November- Sedona and St. George

Overall it's going really well. I'll end up the year with about 100 customers, which was more or less my goal for the first year of operation. If things go the way I think they will, next year I should double that number comfortably. I've learned a bunch over the last 8+ months of trips, and I'll be making a few changes for next year's experience and business model, but nothing too earth-shattering.

It's been a fun ride so far, there's not much I would change overall.

You're winning at life right now. Glad to hear the business is going well.

    +1

It's a cliche, but it's fair to say that's living the dream right there.

If, that is, the dream has to involve work.

Thanks for the post. Those are some great pics. I'm glad your startup is working out and that the giant leap into unknown territory was successful.

It's been a ton of work, and there are definitely some things that are tough to deal with... but yeah, I'm 100% happy so far that it's turned out this well.

I have a few other ideas to complete my idea of "living the dream", but I can't quite convince my wife to leave the Boulder area just yet.

Definitely jealous of all those "work trips" you've been on. Looks like you've been up to good things. Nice work dude

I can't take total credit, as there are already companies with similar business models that offer great products... Western Spirit, Rim Tours, Sacred Rides, etc. I just tweaked it a little bit to appeal to a different kind of mountain biker, which is what I've always wanted to do in the first place. Working in the adventure travel space for a couple of years (as a photographer) has helped me see what works and what doesn't.

Yep, we've had some pretty kick-ass rides throughout the year.... it's all about having a good time. It's only going to get better as I get things dialed in, too!
