    Switzerland Beta...help a bruder out!

Hijack but, what about south of Zurich? Engelberg, etc? Looking at possibly moving out there for a year or two (or more) in the next couple years.

do you want ski areas or cities? expensive is the word you are looking for if you want a flat or a house there.
It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.

Wondering about the skiing mostly, but info on cities would be nice. Not too worried about the cost of living - not buying anything, rent looks reasonable (not much more than Denver), and my pay is adjusted for increased cost of living. Maybe some thoughts on living in Lucerne vs Zurich vs outskirts of Zurich vs elsewhere and commuting into Zurich (train/bike). My job would be located a few blocks from the Enge station. How necessary is a car for skiing?

    Do you know about bergfex?
    http://www.bergfex.com/

That's a pretty decent list of most Euro ski areas and it has maps for each Canton/Province as well as topo and trail maps for each ski area.

The density of skiing around Zurich or Lucerne is great:

A car is useful, but not necessary. It's bizarre for a Yank to see people milling around the ZRH train station at 7:00 in the morning in ski gear, but everyone does it. Both Engleberg and even Andermatt are accessible via morning train.

Here's the link to the Swiss train:

So much great info! (Although...I sort of feel like I'm drowning...I hope it all makes more sense when we get there!)

Thanks everyone and keep it coming!
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

My number one advice is don't try to do too much. Pick something and stick with it. I can understand the attraction of Zermatt, but it's just not for me. I like the less limelit places.

Hey, I travel for a living and I can tell you that the best Vacations I've had have been spent in pretty much one place & the worst have been moving around way too much. That and schlepping way too much shit around. It sure is cool to fly into Zurich & then be able to go anywhere by train right out of the airport. Have fun.

So....Day 1: fly to Zurich...train to Grindelwald. There's no snow here, so not committed to skiing just yet....but, I could just stare at the mtns all day!

    Tomorrow is: Jungfraujoch!
