Pumped for you guys. I was up last weekend and for 5 days the week before, leaving on Friday to avoid being snowed in. I had friend obligations this weekend but I don't think I could have done the drive again anyway, I need a weekend to relax. The funny thing is, these friends are always trying to get me to ski Deer Valley with them, one of them has a dad with a ski-in/ski-out place there, and it is tough to let them down and say that I have no interest in skiing Deer Valley when I have a mountain that blows Deer Valley away. If I were to take them up on the offer I would ski Snowbird/Alta and rent a car. They came to Mammoth with us once and insist that Deer Valley is better, which tells you a ton about their skiing abilities. I appreciate the offer, but I'm not making a trip to Utah to ski Deer Valley.

I just spent a day at Deer Valley, and it didn't suck. 18" of blower might have help

Otherwise Deer Valley is a pretty boring mountain. BCC or LCC are much more fun.

Well, duh. But those chutes at the far side of the resort can be fun.

Damn Hutash, what are the odds. I was there too...... pretty fun
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

395 from the bottom of the grade to June Lake loop has been closed NB & SB since mid morning. Plus R3 chain controls in town and Main Lodge is closed.

Yeah, it is a complete cluster fuck. Cars stuck on 395, blowing snow, soCal drivers, etc. They just closed 8 and 17 is likely to close soon.

Patrol site said 33" at the study plot (Main Lodge ) no doubt more higher up the mountain.

I has to dig out 5'drifts because the drive way and front walk are now canyons. 3 hours of work with a good snow blower and shovels to get it done

Fun day, but not much open. Still high winds, but 22 was open for a short time. I found plenty of untracked in the trees, but had some issues with not enough pitch.

Tomorrow should be epic, but Wednesday could be even better depending on what they open and when.

After 22 closed, they opened 25 around 2 pm and it started nuking again. I don't think I have ever made as few turns in the Avie chutes, they are fat and were schmooth.

I didn't get crap. Was there Sat-Monday. Went to the hill Saturday and rode a lot of low angle stuff before the wind started shutting things down
Was out at Convict Lake so went for a short tour Sunday.
Breaking trail with mid thigh new snow on the flats.
Went up about 300 ft and dug a pit and quickly realized anything with enough angle to ride would most likely slide and didn't want 4-5 feet of new snow to go so we went back to the cabin
Monday we just worked on getting the hell out of town

Bummer! We got in Saturday before the storm and hitting bluebird pow today. We did spend a lot of time blowing and shoveling snow.

Spinning laps on 22 for now due to nothing open higher up. No chairs 3,5,9 as well as no top. Stilling blasting the tail as of 12:00 pm. Crazy amounts of snow in town and on the hill.

The view from my buddy's apartment looking at the backside of the old Gomez's building.

Cliff band under ch22 is gone. Looks skiable.

The top looking very good and very filled in. Take a look at Juevos. Filled in and ready. Been awhile since I've seen that.

Looks like Ch12 is open so I think I'll head that way.

Thanks for those coverage pics! Juevos doesn't look like that often, but I don't think I've ever seen that cliff under 22 so completely covered. Balls is looking smaller too! Is Varmit's Nest covered?

Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but is that a YUGE cornice on Dave's?

    Mammoth 16/17

Here!s one more from today. Chair line of Ch 1. Rock jump no longer visible. That's the sign of a good snow year. Top opened late in the day. Got one good run in P3 top to bottom. Only bummer was big ass gondola lines at mid and bottom. Mid was out the door past the ski racks. Even non holiday mid week Tuesday's are busy now?
So I finished the day with ch 5 to traverse way out in the tail to ch 25 back to 5. Ch 9 never ran so little if any traffic. 4 laps and saw one dude out there. Hung out shot the shit with him for a couple minutes. No need to rush. Oh yeah, the snow on the tail? Full blower, zero wind affect, 2ft +. If your out tomorrow, hit it first thing.
    Cheers

I was in the line up when 5 popped. Four great laps before the drive home. Top openers at the same time, but didn't see anybody out on Dave's side of the top station.

Spoke with a 'trolley and he said on big consequence days patrol is doing beacon checks, and people with beacons get front of the line. Said it is a new policy they are trying out. He said they did it yesterday on 22. Anybody see or hear that? No evidence on 5 today, but not really the place for it.

BTW, I always beep on these days, why the fuck not, it only costs a little battery life.

I can confirm that. Heard about it from my bro, CL SS Manager. Trying to get more people to peep in bounds. If your life being saved isn't motivation enough to wear one, a trip to the front of the line at 22 or the Gondi on a big pow session might be.

That side did open a bit later. Saw people skiing Juevos from the top and at 3:45 p.m. saw two skiers drop Balls. First dude in hit it big with no hesitation at the drop and stomped the landing. Not sure who it was, but well done.

I always wear mine on deep days. How to get in on that front of the line deal? Ask the patroller for change for a nickel?
