    2016 - 2017 ALASKA CONDITIONS & STOKE THREAD

A place to find partners, post avy & snow conditions, beta, stoke, or simply a Monday morning mind surf from winter in AK.

    --------------

The last few days have been awesome, if unstable. After two days of triggering and running from avalanches on Sunburst we had a mellow day of meadow skipping on Eddies. The snow was great there too. Lots of wx in the forecast, looking forward to what this winter brings.

    Tuesday w/ Susan & Wendy:

Such high quality snow lately. A sleeper pow day with Andalyn and Don a few weeks ago:

Cold, deep, and untracked gray bird with Zack a week ago:

Saturday, finally good stability, and busy busy busy at the pass! Alex:

Sunday, great light and still untracked snow to be had! Anson:

Just got back from Haines. Ugg. Got there on March 9. Skied 1/2 day on the 10th. Low angle trees only. Massive wind scouring up top. Not what we were hoping for, but at least we flew. Then constant snow for a week until we left. Never got back out. Rented sleds one day. Blower pow down to river level. 2-3 ft. Major avy danger there. Lots of light snow on that crust. Lots of wind loading. No typical Haines lines to be had for a while with the snow set up. More snow forecast. Free ride boys are on hold too. Airport in down was closed for six straight days. Cool meeting some of the athletes at the FWT opening event. Really bummed not to get a chance to hit that terrain up there. It looked all time for the one day we saw it from the heli and on the plane ride out.

Bummer about haines. I'm headed home to Anchorage on the 30th to ski, not in a heli, and I'm pretty concerned about the conditions. Seems like there was a refresh though so maybe.
But Ellen kicks ass - if she had a beard it would be much more haggard. -Jer

Any anchorage locals have ski gear you'd be willing to lend out/sell on the cheap to a mag skier who had his ski bag lost by air Canada?

There is a x-post in gear swap. Looking for things like:
-185+cm touring skis w/skins and binding to fit 320mm
-whippet, axe, cramps, beacon, things like that.

    Beers/bucks for any help. Thanks!
