I suggest an incline with snow on it. Preferably outdoors.

Good advice. Looks like kt is spinning, email report made it sound like nothing was going to open.

If I had all day I might tour, but need to head home early afternoon. If Squaw doesn't open up top today that's going to be mighty tempting tomorrow morning... although I suspect the Funi line will be visible from space.

Sugar Bowl is probably the smart call but may do Squaw since I haven't been there in 2 months and won't be next season other than a few days. You going to be around I assume? I could end up at Alpine out of habit.

At GnarStar today... biding my time with a few laps here and there and a beer here and there, hoping enough snow fills in over the frozen stuff in the trees.
I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.

My buddies were traversing into sentinel bowl from the groomer and got stopped at the first rollover by a patroller. Patroller says "hold up guys, the patroller above is going to do a ski cut". The patroller above does the ski cut and the entire slope gave way with a softish-slab. About 200 yards wide and 6-8" deep.

My two friends and the patroller doing the cut were all swept off their feet and taken for a ride, and came to a stop just above the cat track and the stand of trees just below. The patroller on the traverse that stopped them was also taken for a ride, ended up getting swept over the cat track cross-cut which turned into a terrain trap He was fully buried except for his hand sticking up.

My buddies and the other patroller were able to dig him out pretty quickly. Everybody unharmed but pretty shaken. That's all the info I have.

    Holy shit.

After my lazy lunch beer at Northstar, went back out around 1pm or so and it was still dumping. By that time the coverage in the backside trees was nearly bottomless. Tomorrow should be good. Does anyone know what lifts opened (or didn't) at Sugar Bowl today?

Also, PSA: I was in Granite Chief looking for ski pants for my daughter and they have a bunch of skis for 40% off - so a lot of stuff around $400 brand new. Blizzard, DPS (those are more like $600 - $700) and Black Crows, among others. Usually there's a lot of shitty skis or super short lengths during those spring sales but there were some good options.

Today? Unclear, as previous post said it was on snow safety hold.

What did open at KW today?

This was today, like maybe about 12:30pm or so. I actually am not at the mountain... I'm at my beach office in rainy SF and got this all in a phone call. Nice that I guess I'm the "emergency contact" for some of my friends playing hookey.

6 and 10 and the rest of front opened but then 6 and 10 went on snow hold around 12 maybe, leaving 5 and 11 until I left at 2.

Us too. Ended up there, around noon.
Taking advantage of friends kindness, and lesser driving time (Sierra).
    - But I (re)learned the fickleness of becoming emotionally attached to *things* today, and seriously bent one of my cherished Lhassa Pow's.
    Sad. Love those ski's.
Kinda put a damper on things, for me.

I sense an entertaining story behind that statement.

Man you got to be on it early this time of year, figured the forecasted mostly cloudy sky's would help today, but with bluebird at 8:30am more than halfway up our line solar aspects were already active. One and done today and dial back the Alarm for the next powder day!

Must have been cloudy last night and cleared fairly late this am--so the heavy snow never had a chance to dry out. I know things got manky a lot quicker today than the last bluebird powder day earlier this week, whatever day that was--I'm losing track.

Smell all that propane in the valley? There's been a residential propane tank fire right at the 88 / Meadows Dr turnoff. Anybody have any better news?

That is more info than I had. It stinks. And the smoke was black.
