    Give me boots to ogle

I need new boots, mine are old and beat.
I will be going to a boot fitter at some point this fall and will be trying on/listening to their advice.
In the meantime, I'm bored, so armchair boot fit me.

    Current boot: Scarpa Mobe
Me: 5'11" 170# high instep, smelly feet
How I'm going to ski them: Mix of inbounds and touring, probably 60:40 favoring touring. I ski somewhat aggressively, but don't really huck because I'm a pussy. Probably want another full-rocker, rubber soled boot. Around 120 flex.

Do they actualy fit or do you just not know any different

probably you wana try the Maestrale RS cuz they are a nice price/ come with intuition liners/ scarpa buys the lowtech fittings from dynafit if that boot fit me I would have bought a pair

High insteps don't really play well with the current crop of mid weight powerful touring specific boots. Current leaders in this range are ZeroG, MTN Lab, potentially the Beast.

the Lange XT freetour will likely fit you the best, and tours better than the Mobe, but is still more of a side country boot. Not that I didn't do 5000ft days on it last year, just not my first choice.

The Mobe's fit well for a long time, after some getting some initial work done on them, but at this point, I haven't been in anything different for quite a while.
They started to give me problems this year, and are getting pretty worn down. Two seasons of skiing them mostly in dukes chewed up the plastic pretty good, and the liners are for sure donezo, they're the originals.

Maestrales crushed my high instep, just sayin'.

Dalbello Sherpas have good instep height...at least my older ones do.

If you try on the Salomon MTN Labs, I'd be intersted to hear how they treat your instep. I'm kind of interested in the MTN Explore.

Scarpa Freedom SL, Atomic Waymaker 110/130. Both have tall insteps and roomier fits in general, neither is light but if you're happy with the Mobe may be fine.

I was gonna mention the Freedom SL but the OP mentioned a rocker sole.

Comes with a rockered ISO 9523 sole, you can swap it for a flat ISO 5355 sole also.

yeah but its a good one to try cuz its scarpa (?) and great value IMO

I would be in them if they fit me

what I have seen with 2 ski buds whom were in BD factors IS the Maestrale RS fits perfect if that helps anyone

YMMV but power wrap will accommodate high instep IME,

for me its pw or give up skiing

    Well, there's rocker:

    And then there's rocker:

I have both those boots - the Dalbellos are easier hikers.

Tried on mtn explores, 25.5 was too big, coming from 25 mobe. When I went "backseat" my whole foot slid.
Can't get Maestrales in my size from evo (I work in the headquarters office)
Tried on the freedom rs in a 25.5, heel was tight and they were tight on the ball of my foot, but then I could still wiggle my toes (too much?)

Lange XT Freetour, Zero G, new Cochise all would be good.

Why don't you go visit GregL or XaiverD at the Seattle store and have them look at your feet? Both stare at feet all day and can probably steer you the right direction?

You will need to size down one size from Scarpa in most brands. I'm a 25.5/26.0 in Scarpa and a 25.0/25.5 in most other boots to get a similar shell fit.

Maestrale probably will not work with a high instep. Dalbello Sherpa, Scarpa Freedom, Salomon Mtn Lab are all going to be narrower than a Mobe but play nicely with higher insteps (and punching for width isn't usually too hard). The Dynafit Beast might be worth a shot too. I have not tried on the new Cochise/Zero G last, or any of the Atomic stuff.

Matt, you know a 25.0 Mobe is the same as a 24.5 Mobe, right?

Must be a 25.5 then, total forgot that Scarpa does their half sizes differently

Sklar - why don't you want an alpine race boot made out of ultralight plastic with tech fittings and a walk mode? Kind of seems like the holy grail to me?

Just order a pair, I don't understand the hesitation? This is literally the boot everyone was begging for a few years back.

    Interesting spec:
    Scarpa Mobe: 1790g in a 26.5/27
    Lange XT Freetour: 1790g in a 26.5
