    45 years ago - Briggs->the Grand

A nice story, a couple actually, about the iconic picture of Briggs' first tracks on the Grand:

    it's a great story
we have this poster framed and hanging in our entryway and Bill Briggs signed it too
If you go to the stagecoach bar in Wilson on Sunday nights he always plays in the band and he will sign your pic

also fun fact about Bill- he;s a scientologist!

I have that signed poster too. I treasure it. Before the place closed, I hung it up at a mountain shop where I worked. I have a story about that poster, the shop, and Bill Murray:

I saw those skis on display at the GTNP headquarters, with the Spademan bindings on them. Awesome.

Yes. His story in "Steep" mentions that. Pretty incredible effort for the day. Even now, it's an incredible effort but back then....unheard of.

Steep is by far one of my favorite ski movies, but Briggs segment was absolutely insane and loved the story... I cannot even imagine what was going through his head when his group bailed on him and he forged ahead alone...

I know there was a thread floating around here regarding the poster of his tracks on the Grand as to how you could get a signed copy... Does anyone know if you can still snag one of these and if so where...?

Directly through Briggs, if he has any left. I'll see if I can dig up his email address from when I got mine.

I really cant comprehend the kind of balls this must have taken.
The clothing, the gear to climb up, the gear to ski down
and of course, the lack of social media to claim world wide bragging rights
I do enjoy the fact that it was so unbelievable He had to fly up and take pics.
I stayed at Snowking a few days and really enjoyed the news articles and pics on the walls.
    What a bad ass.

    also - Steep

I cant remember if I had started splitboarding yet the first time I saw this movie but I was a snowboarder and even though I never have had that "Skiers Suck" attitude I can say to this day that's one of the BEST snow movies ever made

That's where I got mine. I called them, relayed my info and CC number, and the deal was struck. It came in the mail.

Yeah, you really do. It's my favorite ski movie. Sad in that too many of those highlighted in the movie are no longer with us but, a great movie.

' Waiting Game ' is the name of the other film from 2003 that has a nice Briggs segment --

it was done by a Jackson / Teton Valley crew
( I think it was independent from / of TGR - I think.

    anyway. nice film. )
