T.R.s - Patchskiing, Spring, Summer, and Autumn 2016
It is nearly the summer solstice, so it seems like a good time to start another annual patch skiing thread. Instead of posting a separate TR for every patchskiing day, I'm going to put them in one thread. I hope that others will add to this. I also hope to provide views, creamed corn and soft-serve snow images, along with some dog stoke.
I'll post a few highlights from each day.
To see more just click on the link for patchskiing.com in my signature.
I'll start with Mount Rose Highway Summit, May 31, 2016
This was a dusk patrol recon mission. While we had a pretty late start time of 6:15 PM, we still found good snow conditions as well as finding a location for our June turns the next afternoon.

Tamarack Peak, June 1, 2016
Our Mount Rose Highway Summit recon dusk patrol mission the previous evening revealed lots of good skiing potential up around Tamarack Peak.
On the drive up we could see the chute we skied the evening before.
We skied the wider chute on looker's left the previous evening. On this day we skied a couple of the narrower chutes on looker's right as part of our car shuttle exit plan.
Vets starts down the ridge of Tamarack Peak.

Vets scopes a line...
...and starts down a chute...
Dookey67 finds a chute of his own and sprays corn snow on the rocks.
Consecutive month skiing streaks are extended. Dookey67 is at 102 consecutive months. Vets is at 152 consecutive months.

Ebbetts Pass, June 5, 2016
Sharing joy and beauty with Mrs. Vets and our dogs Makisha and Penny.
Our first destination from Ebbetts Pass was Dorothy Lake.
Vets skiing above Dorothy Lake.
Next we headed to the ridge below Ebbetts Peak. From here we had a great view of Hiram Peak and Folger Peak (the peaks that surround Highland Lakes.) Here you can see Penny and Makisha with Hiram Peak and Folger Peak in the background.
There is another great view in the opposite direction. Mrs. Vets, Makisha and Penny hanging out above Sherrold Lake and Kinney Reservoir.
The ridge is also the entrance to the four dragon chutes, Chinese Fireball Dragon Chute, Hungarian Horntail Dragon Chute, Swedish Short-Snout Dragon Chute, and Welsh Green Dragon Chute. (Yes, I am a big fan of the Harry Potter series.) I would ski the latter two chutes this day.

(This panorama was made from a sequence of three photos.)
I took a non-stop run all the way down to Kinney Reservoir. It is included as part of the following video.
Looking across Kinney Reservoir and up at Ebbetts Peak.
On the trip home we saw many snow plants.

Mount Lola, June 7, 2016
We went on a recon mission to find some accessible snow. After being turned back three times (Once due to lack of snow and two times due to too much snow on the roads) we finally made it to the Jan-Micheal Vincent Danger Bridge below Mount Lola Ridge.
On the way we saw a little toad on the side of a dirt road.
The Jan-Michael Vincent Danger Bridge.
Would you dare to drive your vehicle over the Jan-Michael Vincent Danger Bridge?

A minute and a half video with some highlights from the day (2 runs, 2 skiers, 2 perspectives.)

Due to it's proximity to the Jan-Michael Vincent Danger Bridge, this has been designated as a triple-black-diamond run on the Mt. Lola trail map.
More to come...

Return to The Nipple on June 24th.
I returned to The Nipple, having skied there two days earlier to explore some of the "backside" or south facing runs before skiing the east ridge runs.
A self-timer photo of my first run of the day.
Penny loves the snow.

On the bootpack up I saw a cicada in the snow.
After 5 runs on the backside, I took six more runs on the east ridge of The Nipple.
