    Quiver overload! WWMD

I totally overextended myself. I have too many skis that are fairly similar. I like them all in their own regard, but a couple of pair need to be weeded out. Otherwise, they will, no doubt, go under appreciated. I ski the Wasatch, mostly Canyons, and DV with a handful of days in LCC
    Current quiver:
Rock skis: 188 Stockli Stormrider SS w/P14 ...not worth anything, still have life. Great early and late season skis
Groomers: 184 Kastle MX 98 184 w/ K13s ... have 100+ days on them, still plenty of life. I can't imagine a more perfect ski

    Here's where things get tricky:
Variable condition/soft snow and crud skis:
2016 184 Salomon Q-Lab w/ Tyrolia Demo tracks: Good, but not as good as the MX 98. May give them to my son. They may be a good compliment to his Cochise, which is his only other ski.
    188 Kastle BMX 108 w/ Radical FT12 (used mostly for hiking side-country)
184 Volkl Katana (metal) w/ P14: Better float, but not as good grip as BMX 108, but too heavy set up for hiking.
Kastle BMX 128 w/ P14: Deepest days only. Used no more than 3X in past 3 years.

I can justify keeping them all, but not sure that I will. Here's your chance to discuss your pros and cons of each ski, and compare, if you want.

    MX 98 - resort firm
    Katana - most days
    BMX 128 - uber deep
    BMX 108 - winter touring

Ditch the Q-Lab and get a spring touring rig
Or ditch the Katana and BMX 128 and replace both with a 115-120mm

Both good suggestions. If I give my son the Q-Labs, then I am set. I just need to pray for those uber deep days when the Katana is not enough! What ever happened to those 3 foot plus days, or 100 inch weekends in the wasatch? It's been 4 years, now.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Right. I was in C.R. fishing until the 23rd. Great when I got home though. Here is some fishing porn from that trip.Click image for larger version.

I guess that you can tell from my skis that for the most part, I like + camber, some running length and flatfish tails. I have no use for a twin.

You're right. The only PRAXIS ski that I owned was a pair of 1st yeAR Protests. I put about 30 days on them. Not bad....really heavy, a bit too slarvy. ...preferred the Katanas.

How often do you want more float than the Katana provides? If the average is once per year, then just ditching the BMX 128 seems like a no brainer. If relatively often, then replacing both the Katana and BMX 128 with something in between seems smart.

PS. Praxis and ON3P have come a long ways in the past 4 years.

112 underfoot is wide enough for just about any day. Also, the BMX 128 needs 3000+ feet of continuous vertical to shine. It is not really an in bounds Wasatch ski

I'm not lucky enough to justify 'need' for the 128mm's, but I've settled on the ~100mm range for firm conditions (new Mantra/Nanuq) and 112mm for soft (metal Katana/VWerks) for both in-bounds and touring rigs. The ~107mm mid-range probably makes sense for a single ski quiver, but I like the versatility of having two skis in those ranges.

I found way too much overlap between a ~107mm and the Katana because it's just so capable. It'll be interesting to see what the new Confession at 117mm skis like, which they tout it as the new Katana.

The BMX 108's deserve a burlier bindings and the Radicals deserve a lighter ski. Give Salomon's to son. Ditch the 128's. Put the P14's on the 108's and buy something lightish, 110-115ish and soft snow oriented for the Radicals.

To me, the 108 is a great touring option, and like YoEddy says, the Katana is just so capable and fills the inbounds Big Mountain everyday wasatch need. I think the three skis that I am most comfortable with are the MX98, Katana and BMX108. Really, if I didn't feel compelled to occasionally hike/skin, I would be happy with the MX98 and Katana quiver. I like the idea of keeping the Q-Labs around for my son asa carving option to his Cochise. Because they have demo clamps on them, I can occasionally take them for a ride. The question is whether the 128s have a purpose (which they do, albeit a very limited one).

I'd keep the Katana and MX98 for inbounds. Great combo. Sell the BMX128. Buy a 8-9lb 115-120mm ski and throw dynafits on. Then you have a fat pow ski you can use for touring pow and inbounds on big days. You can then contemplate a lightweight spring touring ski to replace the BMX108.

Rax doesn't get much mention anymore. It's a shame as its a great ski.
