changed to carbon rims, tubeless, swapped to 1x drivetrain. It wasn't all in the wheels but wheels were most of it like I said.

Enve did some interesting testing on this. They basically found that, for a 2.5" tire, there's a point of rapidly diminishing returns at around ~30mm internal width. With a wider rim, the tread width doesn't really get any wider, there's minimal gains in sidewall support, and the rim just gets heavier. For a 2.3" tire, the inflection point was somewhere around 26mm.

The tread width on the WT tires is almost identical to the regular 2.5" Maxxis tires. The only real difference is the knob size and spacing - the WT tires have a bit more support for the side knobs. This seems to make them less squirmy on harder dirt. I'd say it's an improvement, but it's not a huge difference. More on that: http://blistergearreview.com/gear-re...hf-wt-dhrii-wt

Yeahhh......7lb is like going from a moderately heavy DH setup with tubes, to an ultralight weight weenie tubeless XC setup. Or a super heavy 26x3.0 DH setup (like Gazzalodi's and doublewides) with motocross tubes vs. an modern enduro setup. Not including a difference in discs and cassette.

The difference between a high end DH race wheel/tire setup and your average trail setup is only about 2.5 to 3 lb.

Does anyone on here rock any of the slightly narrower Ibis bling wheels? Curious on a comparison in feel to the 40 mil externals. Someone was mentioning there's just s tiny gain in performance between the two
