Stay off the side of tall buildings. You're not Tom Cruise.

    Does that hotel serve alcohol?

"Non-Muslims are allowed to consume alcohol in licensed venues, typically within hotels, or at home with the possession of an alcohol license. Restaurants outside hotels in Dubai are typically not permitted to sell alcohol.[66]"

I've stayed there a few times before. It's the best option to grab a few hours of sleep if your layover is >12 hours or so. You can't beat the convenience of not leaving the terminal, but there are much obviously more appealing options in Dubai in terms of amenities if you have more time as the hotel does have an airport vibe to it. If your employer isn't paying the bill or you only have a couple of hours a cheaper alternative is a "sleep cube" which you can find somewhere in terminal 1.

Have stayed at the holiday inn 200m from the airport. It was fine. Staying in the actual airport would definitely be preferable if the goal is getting a few hours of sleep between flights.

Thanks. Goal is getting the Mrs and I some real rest with a 5 and 6 year during an overnight layover. Seems like it will be fine.

Is your vacation long enough to become a local?

I'll have to ask Benny how long that takes. 12 hours is probably enough.
