Cat Ski Mt. Bailey (Oregon) guide dies in slide

From the Cat Ski Mt Bailey Facebook page:

"It is with great sadness that we must announce we have lost our legendary lead guide Rick "Oz" Oswald. Oz was involved in an avalanche incident on March 22 2016 while guiding clients on Mt Bailey. While performing avalanche control he was caught in a slide and struck a tree, sustaining fatal injuries. Oz was a friend to all who met him and an icon who had guided on Mt Bailey since 1981. He is survived by his wife Tami and his son and fellow guide, Ryan."

Incredibly sad. Not often that we have an avy incident in our little corner of the PNW.

We got skunked there once. Freezing fog had left a crust.
1995 I think. Oz made fun of me for wearing a helmet. Called me "short bus".

Oz was a funny dude. I always enjoyed his stories. Mt. Bailey is always good times. To his family, I am so sorry for your loss.

    Shit
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who knew him.

I met OZ for the first time last week during a cat trip. He was a great guy with some great jokes. Always made me laugh before we dropped into a line. Really sad news
