G3 Alpinist LT skins, too short?
No.
And why the fuck would I worry about getting snow on my skins? Aren't they used for climbing snow? What kind of dumbfuck question is that?Last edited by ~mikey b; 06-22-2016 at 12:30 AM.

I've never had the misfortune of needing a guide.
You can do this without contaminating your skins with snow or dirt or anything.

^ yeah, I've used a credit card too as a scraper. I just would rather attach/detach them in such a way that I avoid having to do that is all.

I never really have that problem but I guess it's something you girls can fret about.
So a bear and a rabbit are taking a shit in the woods. The bear asks the rabbit "Do you ever have problems with shit sticking to your fur?" The rabbit says "No." So the bear wipes his ass with the rabbit.I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

This is not my opinion (I try to be happy and non-judgemental ), but an extension of your thought process would be that most backcountry skiers have never had the misfortune of needing a ski patroller.
ps, your bear joke made me picture you as one of those hairy bearded gay dudes with a leather police cap.Life is not lift served.

Just got a new pair of Alpinists in the mail and I have the same issue at the OP. I've always had pretty much full skin coverage on my ski tails before and these seem way too short. I bought these skins to replace a worn out pair of G3s that now has questionable grip, so I'm hoping not to sacrifice too much in that department.
Anyone have an update after more use? Is manageable/not a problem?

Weighing in would be easier with more info about your setup. I have new Alpinists and Alpinist LTs and don't find a dramatic issue with the lack of skin cover on the tail. But having a more cambered ski vs. a full rocker ski will impact the zone that best pressure will be applied.

I bought 184-199 for a 196cm ski. Results were unacceptable. Ski has a flat tail so I want the skin working back there. I prefer reasonable skin tracks but sometimes she just is what she is and the going gets steep.
Trying to get my hands on pomoca at this point.

So far grip has been acceptable on my reverse camber skis. But I'm mostly in powder and virtually never use existing firm skin tracks.
Glide is addictively good. I really dislike using my standard Alpinists now.
Durability may become a problem.
Glue is going downhill fast after about 30 days of use. G3 really needs to fix this aspect of their product.Life is not lift served.

So, for full coverage on 182 GPOs, would you go with long (183-199)?
There's a 3 day sale on 2015 Momix & Alpinist LTs.
[Edit] Damn! Longs in both Momix & Alpinist LT are sold out. Tough decision now on mediums ... on second thought, giving up that much tail material doesn't work for me. I'll probably suck it up and get some Pomocas or BD's mo-mix.

A large would definitely be better for full coverage. These are medium g3 scalas on 182 GPOs. I’m second guessing this size. There’s only about a foot of skin behind the the heel piece.
