Any ideas for organizing pictures on Windows 10? Picassa isn't compatible (and isn't being supported on Windows moving forward) and the new Windows Pictures app is painfully inflexible.

Ya, it is called creating folders and managing files. I can't stand the so-called album/organizer software out there. I need to see a directory structure and be able to sort files based on name, date or size. If you want to create a certain order, than rename the files. Write a script if you have a lot of files. And I especially hate the libraries 'feature' in Winblows 7. So I can only imagine teh suck they created in 8 and 10.

All you need is a different Picture App- Irfanview, Faststone or similar to open and view the photos. Not sure what else you need unless you want to do automatic backup to the cloud or advanced editing. GIMP or Corel PaintShop Pro if you do not want the Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements packages for editing.

Yes it sucks, and I'm now using folders. It works, but Picasa sure did make life easier.

Haven't read the entire thread so I apologize if this has been covered but.

Went from 8 to 10 about 4 months ago. Excel files in some folders now take forever to load.

MS says it is a problem with Cortana. I have turned Cortana off and it cleared some of the problems but not all.

    Anyone else?
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

On my 7 upgraded to 10 explorer quits working all the time. I can't open or save files. Adobe Lightroom is constantly loosing my preferences. I had an auto update on Tuesday, and now I have no Ethernet connection.

All day Tuesday I had similar problems; nonee of my saved logins in Firefox were there; rekeying them did't help, if I closed Firefox they all disappeared, every fucking time. I finally gave up; then as if by magic, everything g was back on Wednesday. Why the hell cant they do these stupid upgrades overnight?

So, what's on tap for this weekend, Windows users? Getting kicked in the nuts followed by a hot coffee to the face?

I only read the last two pages, but it's so weird the differences in experience with Windows 10.

I upgraded my dell laptop running win 7 to 10 about 3 months ago and couldn't be happier. Everything is faster, loads faster, and is way smoother.

My son, who has almost the identical laptop, did the upgrade and it kept freezing up on him or randomly restarting until he rolled it back, reinstalled 10, and now it works flawlessly.

With all that said, I'm hoping I won't be taking any kicks to the nuts or hot coffee to the face this weekend.

I'm on 7, so probably some Netflixing and video gaming.

Ran into an issue where Explorer wouldn't open file folders on 8.1. Didn't find a solution in 30 seconds of google so went the route of overkill and upgraded to 10. Little slower to start but seems reasonable so far.

Just gonna get it over and staple my nuts to the coffee table. Less painful.

I reinstalled Windows 10, it was and still is painful. Several programs are lost for ever, several more don't seem to want to install, although I was already using them on Windows 10. Lots of random BS, like my desktop moving all icons to the left side and files suddenly becoming hidden. Did I mention how much I hate Windows?

    btw^^^^ most excellent

from my limited computer expertise I found my laptop which had Windows 8 transitioned easily save for hiding Explorer .. quick youtube fix later and its working fine

only complaint is the removal of the Control Panel from my desktop shortcuts

as for my 3 office computers (2 on windows 7 and 1 on XP Pro) things went bad trying to upgrade to Win 10
Thankful I had a 1 terabyte back-up hard-drive and didn't lose any data but had to reload just a few drivers

moral of the story is if you have anything less than Windows 8 don't do it !

I don't get it either. Type "Control Panel" into the Taskbar window and... bam.

Anyone play around with Win 10 IoT, specifically Raspberry Pi? Any compelling reason to give it a try over all of the available Linux options for the Pi? I ordered a Pi 3 yesterday to goof around with and do a few silly projects with the kids, just because we can.

How do these differ from the Google photo App? Easier to organize? I love the editing on Google and at least it's organized by date and seems less random than Picassa. Is Picassa being phased out for good? Thanks for any additional info!

I did the upgrade from 7 to 10 on about a 4 y/o laptop--my computer needs are simple but I wanted the claimed improved security--time will tell on that. Easy enough to figure out for a computer idiot, but 2 of the 3 USB ports didn't work. I fiddled with that for an hour, googling solutions (there are many), updating drivers, eventually rebooting for about the 4th time fixed it, but then they went out again. Printer didn't work--I didn't get around to updating the driver for that. I called MS about the USB issue and the only advice to they had was to go back to 7--they had no interest in trying to fix the problem so I'm assuming there isn't a simple fix on an older computer. BTW--the restore windows 7 function only works for 30 days.

I do not use the Google Photo App on anything other than Android phone or tablet so IDNK. Both Infranview and Faststone are free downloads (for personal use I believe) and then you can install and see if you like them. If you do then contribute to the effort by sending some funds to the authors- not sure what features you are exactly looking for.

As for Picassa, like some things Google does-they support a free package and then may pull the plug on it and go a different direction. Only Google can answer what their plans are for Picassa (I quit trying to figure out their development efforts and tell customers if it is free now, it may continue to be free or Google could drop it or change their mind at any time.)

Thanks for this, I sort of got stuck in Picassa world (tough I never totally liked it) and am really behind on software options. Just purchased a new laptop and want to start fresh with the photos and being organized so I'll check those suggestions out.

That being said, I'm having glitches with my new ASUS TP500L. The V key is a nightmare, also have had the same issue someone else mentioned about getting Edge and Cortana off the f'n task bar, it was weird and at the same time it would not load Chrome, took multiple restarts and lots of other weird issues with drivers and getting hung up. I've given up and am exchanging it via Costco where I purchased it, I think it's a lemon. Otherwise, I think I'm getting the gist of 10 and I'm guessing it will be alright if I figure out how to make use of half of the features.
