Looks like precip is in the area so I would think it's still TBD for Friday.

    Nate's Eastside book is legit.

Hey Chill - did the upper face to Dade from hourglass have snow? How did cat ears and petit look?

does anyone know when Rock Creek road will open to Mosquito Flat TH?

Has anyone been touring out of North Lake to Lamarck or Piute Pass?

    thx.

Cat's Ears hasn't gone for a while. Saw photos from a friend who skied Hourglass earlier this week and it looks fine. I'm guessing the road is open to Mosquito Flat, but if not, the gate isn't that far.

I'm a little grateful that there hasn't been a great melt in May, but at the same time it seems like 90% of the weather this month has been cloudy with a chance of 1/2" of snowfall. Where art thou, high-pressure systems of yore?

Anyone been over Monitor Pass lately? Considering it for camping this weekend, wondering how snowy/muddy it is.

As of Monday, the Rock Creek Rd was only open to the pack station. Like Winston, I walked to Mosquito Flat and mostly dry hiked to Heart Lake. You can skin fairly consistently beyond there. Cat's Ears is out. The face above Hourglass is pretty rocky and you could ski part of it, but not all of it. Hourglass was fun. Nice dust on crust transitioning almost immediately to corn. This thread is still sweet. Wishing I had windows to ski. I might be able to get out come early June. At least this year there will be snow and plenty of inspiration.

Saddlebag plowed to the lake. Coverage is excellent. Here's a pic of me on North Peak and a pic of Dana from the north for beta. Click image for larger version.

Ended up driving up Friday morning 5/27, set up camp at Saddlebag lake:

Booted up Greenstone Ridge from the dam:

To a high point with a nice view of North Peak:

Fun run down toward the lake:

Nice view of the run from the next day:

View of the camp from the traverse out:

After dinner, dug out the door to the poop house and enjoyed the sunset:

Saturday 5/28, booted up North Peak, with the goal to summit (or at least the summit ridge), but storm was moving in and we decided to go right to the North chute. Entrance looked easy enough, but got significantly steeper:

Buddy half way down on lookers right chute:

    Glad he made that turn:

    Such an awesome run:

Lookers left chute looked less steep and wider and was tempted to boot up for a second lap, but storm started to get worse and had some thunder...and I was tired :-)

Turned into winter by the time we returned to camp:

Sunday 5/29 awoke to blue bird. Skinning toward Conness:

I think he took off from North peak, cool to watch:

jimw and buddy put in a nice boot track up Conness Y-Couloir:

They dropped in via skiers left chute, so we got the one we hiked up untracked:

    Fun run:

View of S, we took the bowl to skiers right:

After some beers in the parking lot with some Tahoe folks, it was time for a swim:

Spent Monday morning skiing Mammoth ski area.

Left Clovis early Friday and got to Saddlebag around 830. Having never been up there and rolling solo I figured I'd just traverse around the lake and head up whatever looked fun. My weak and soft feet had other plans so I ended up going up a saddle once on the far end of the lake.

Good views of North Peak and guys head up it on the way:

Snow as perfectly smooth and easy skinning. I got to the ridge and not too far away was a cool looking ridge to this peak:

I really wanted to head up the ridge but having only been in ski boots a couple times this year had my feet telling me otherwise. What can I say, I've grown soft. So I headed back down on some of the best corn snow ever. So dang smooth.

Skiing was done for the day, time for the other planned activity.

So much skiing still to be had off Tioga:

Nice little ride around the desert by June Lakes loop turnoff:

Then a great day skiing Mammoth with Arty and Squirrel. The 'Noid held the goods lap after lap.

Fun little spring storm coming back over the pass. Now I need to find the time to get back up there!

There are mags in Clovis? I just was there for a few days visiting family, no skiing for me on this trip unfortunately. Looks great up there!
