Dynastar Inspired Mounting Help?
I have heard people say that the tail on this ski can be a little big sometimes.
I compared the mounting point on this ski to other fat skis and noticed that it is at least a cm forward of other the other skis.
Has anyone experimented with changing the Mounting point on this ski back a little?
Thanks

I had this same question with mine last year and just ended up going center line and I have no complaints. My season was ended early so I really didn't get maybe more than 10 days on them but they worked great for me in everything. My shop manager swore that 3cm back was the sweet spot but the center has been good to me. I guess if you can demo have them moved back and see what ya think.

disclaimer: i've only gotten about 6 days on them, 3 in mostly soft snow).
they seem too far forward to me, i'd like to try some 2cm back. i feel like i almost have to ride back to get the tips up.

our rep recommends mounting 1cm back unless you're big into the spinny flippy stuff. stoked to get a pair of these

had a question a while ago...
is the mounting point on a 178 inspired the same as a 178 LBF?
thanks

I have the 188s mounted at the standard spot. IMO, it is way too forward. I am too lazy and cheap to get them remounted so I have just gotten used to it. I would recommend going 2 cm back. When I get them remounted with Freerides, I will definately do that.

I believe that the Inspired and the LBF have the same mounting point. I compared an 03 178 LBF and an 04 178 Inspired and they were the same.

I believe that LBF is more like park/pipe ski than Inspired allthough the dimensions are almost same. So I wonder why the mounting point is equal. I also have Inspireds but I haven't mounted them yet. Compared to my old G4 (same length) there is huge margin in the mounting mark +6cm. I believe that for all mountain skiing it is safe to mount them 1 - 2cm back. Anyway I'm also interested in hearing experiences how does it ski when mounted as recommended or little back..

Just picked up a pair myself...I'm definitely going to mount 1cm back...not sure about a full 2 tho. Do you guys really think 2cm is necessary?

Thought I'd post an update. I mounted 1.5cm back and took them out for the first time this Sunday.
Skis rocked, definitely a bit soft in the tip but still nice and stable. Really easy to turn, loving life with these puppies.
Mounting point still felt a bit forward to me even 1.5cm back! I was amazed. I'm happy with where it is, but I was surprised at how forward it still felt. I'd say 2cm back is totally safe.

i've got a few days on mine at 2cm back now. completely different ski. instead of feeling a little shakey in steep pow it feels like autopilot. i never would've believed that 2cm could make that much difference.

Flykdog & Particle:
How about hard snow, ice, groomers performance ? Better or worse now, differences ?

I've got the 188's.
have still only skied pow on 'em...I'll let ya know next time I groom it.

So they've had a little groomer time, and as loathe as I am to believe in technology with stupid names like 'Autodrive', I am a believer. Soft cap tip makes turn initiation super easy, and true vertical sidewalls under boot to tail makes these things RAIL on groomies and bust crud with the best of them.
Super stable, one of the best all-around skis I've ever been on. Ski quite differently than my old Tankers, which were much stiffer in the tip, but I honestly don't care--they're easy, fun, stable, wide enough to blast through 3-feet of pow, and narrow enough to rail the groomies. My new favorite everyday ski. Period.

bump and crossposted from my LBF thread...
i've got these guys mounted with naxo's now (see my review in that thread) and have had no problem with any ramp angle, from that perspective it feels like an alpine set-up....however....
i've got the LBF's mounted at the line (which is a tad forward). i skied a myriad of off-piste conditions for the past 4 days. you name it, i skied it. in light pow, i felt balanced, but had to raise the tips a bit from time to time (but that bow thing works a bit and at least feels like it's doing something). in heavier pow, i ended up using more of a 'plowing' technique, but the shovel was stiff enough to drive through it. this worked the quad pretty hard, but liveable. the problem came when everything turned to steep, deep, wind-packed glu. after a few face-plants, i reverted to a wide stance and had to sit on the heels. this is tiring, but quite thrilling when you get up to speed.
i think i'm going to re-mount 2cm back, or maybe even 3cm. the only possible problem i can see with this is that the cap shovel, sidewall underfoot balance may be disturbed?
thoughts?
edit- otherwise, i'm very happy with these sticks. i can't believe how versatile they are for a 'wider' ride. forgiving of mistakes, but still can muscle it every now and again, good edge grip, and decently quick.
edit edit- i'm an ok skier, 165 lbs, 5'10"

the magic formula is
lfor a 300mm boot witch is 30 cm
(lenght of the ski / 2 ) - (30 / 2)
you mesure that from the back of the ski and voila.shut up and ski

if it's a twin, are you measuring from the back of the ski, or the effective edge? and you're speaking of boot center here, correct?

Ulty, I have the 188 Inspireds mounted with Naxos 2 cm back and highly suggest getting them mounted back. I skied several runs of dense pow this weekend and found I didn't need to lean back like I had to before. It made a huge difference. Also, no complaints from me on their uphill performance with the new mount point.
You may want to check the screws if your heel isn't landing on the riser piece. I did a couple 40 min hikes with them on pretty steep terrain and I never had this problem. I also skied them pretty aggressively through the bumps, several dropoffs, and death crust. They felt solid in all types of snow. My thought is that they will be pretty durable, so I wouldnt be afraid to put them through the ringer.Technical Scandinavian Style since 1986 - www.crossskiwear.com

its the boot center yes and if its a twin or not, you drop the tape on top of the ski and mesure the curves of the spatulas.
shut up and ski

thanks f-d-n and d-l-s-b, i'm gonna redrill and go for some more!

can't remount the damn binders.
b/c of the screw pattern of the toe piece on naxos (the 2 set of screws are about 2.5 cm apart, but are slightyl different widths apart). if you want to re-drill, you need to move the binder at least 3, probably 4cm one way or the other.
anyways, don't really know what to do. i can try mounting them 4 cm back of the mounting line, but that seems a bit extremeo. the other option i guess is getting a dedicated touring ski (probably a fischer 7.6) and then putting the naxos on them instead. the problem here is that my current skiing frequency really doesn't merit a quiver. selling them probably won't work so well seeing as how the brits despise buying used stuff.
annoyed. thoughts?

Never did give an update. I ended up mounting mine 2 cms back. I love the ski. I could have seen how if I had mounted it at the existing mounting point, the tail would have felt a little big sometimes.
