I went Christmas tree hunting on Blewett pass yesterday. Probably more snow up there right now than all of last year. 8" of low density fluff atop a 1-2" bomber crust, over dirt at ~6000'. Another 10"-12" and it will be game on in areas that have smooth surfaces underneath. I am thinking opening day at Mission will be good, particularly if the snow forecast for the eastside works out.

    Grabbed a nice spruce.

Did not bring skis but the Jeep got some pow turns.

Leave it to the Norseman to make what (I heard) was a downright icy weekend on Washington's Premier Destination Ice Cream Scoop™ look nice. Great photos, mang! Almost makes me wish I'd taken my split out for a walk in yesterday's inversion...

Hoping this next system brings in more than forecasted - dust on crust is not ideal for this time of the year.

Yesterday's car trip was seasoned by the following (and I paraphrase) by our progeny

    (set to "Jingle Bells")

    Slashing through the snow
On a pair of broken skis.
    O'er the rocks we go.
    Crashing into trees.
    Bang bang bang
    The snow is turning red
    I think I'm almost dead
And I woke up in the hospital with stitches in my head
    Oh powder snow, powder snow
    Way up past my knees
Oh what a joy it is
    To turn on fatpow skis
    Oh.. (refrain)
    Oh

Prolly not enough snow to cover the rocks at Alpy, except maybe Sessel. The better bet is West (skier's right of the Pacific Crest chair), where we did some skin laps over the weekend.

2" of new snow will help some. We set a skin track climber's left of Dodge Ridge chair. Beware of rocks on the first few turns from the top of the lift or avoid them by ripping skins before taking the right turn to get up there.

Wow. This is considerably less snow than I was picturing.

How much less? I figure West is slide-able on about 10". Stevens has at least twice that at 5k, so I'm thinking of heading that way to skin a few laps under Skyline tomorrow morning before stuffing myself full of bird and bird-related accessories.

Will report back if I go.

Baker Hwy work requires single lane closure for 30 days. Damaged culvert was originally installed in 1931.

It wasn't terrible. Thin but didn't hit rocks.

Anyone been to Baker since the slight refresh the other day? Any chance it is something other than dust on crust?

I was there today and it is dust on crust in the good spots, otherwise it is just crust.
