I'ma throw in Fincher as an Auteur currently working. Honestly Scorsese's stuff is getting a bit stale for me. Loved many of his films, but he lost me after Casino.

I love QT's B-movie schtick, so will absolutely see this film. No love for the Kill Bills?

The Hateful Eight a film by Quentin Tarantino

Kill Bill should have been one movie as originally planned and as a result one of the best in my world. I recall seeing 1 in the theater and hated to see it end. 2 blew me away and all came together.

The Hateful Eight a film by Quentin Tarantino

^^ def too long if one saga but breaking it up felt a bit too money grabbing. Not that all sequels aren't but this was one story out of the gate so could have been a ~3 hour tale??

Kurt Russell is starring in another western, Bone Tomahawk, being released this month.

Pretty solid interview with the man regarding the aforementioned film, plus some of his cult classics (The Thing, etc.)

It took this long to bring up Kill Bill. I love the story of the film 'True Romance' written by QT in 1990, I think. He sells it off to a big company, turns out to be a great film done by Riddley Scott. QT get the money to do Reservoir Dogs then Pulp Fiction, I still put True Romance with QT films.

    Cool.

kill bill saga is deff the best Tarantino films. Inglorious Bastards left me underwhelmed. Reservoir Dogs is forever a classic. And Benny, Jackie Brown? Maybe I'm not old enough..

Wes Anderson has some great movies but certainly has a schtick, I was over it by grand budapest. I thought moonrise kingdom was some excellent commentary on my generation. Darjeeling Limited and Life Aquatic are my favorites.

Coen Brothers do it the best, man.

Looks like another Tarantino classic. Watched the directors chair on elrey network and he had some classic insight. The hotel that Kurt Russell talks about is nearby and hope to ride the Harley up and chat old school with him some time.
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

KB1 was an ode to Japanese cinema ranging from the samurai epics of Kurosawa to the exploitation films of the late '60s, the beat-styled yakuza films of Suzuki, anime, and of course Takeshi Miike.

KB2 was a spaghetti western and an ode to those films (plus, kung fu/samurai movies are basically eastern westerns--or perhaps the American western is just a western eastern?)

(Eli Roth totally copped QT's genre homage with Hostel 1 (ode to Japanese horror films) and Hostel 2 (ode to Italian and Euro horror), fwiw...)

As for not making KB one long, almost 4-hour movie, I think they were right in doing it as 2 parts. I'm pretty sure that the average American moviegoer would not have paid nor sat through a 4 hour movie, even if it had an intermission/smoke break in the middle like Lawrence of Arabia or Gone With the Wind. We've (American moviegoers) been weened on the 90-minute movie for far too long.

    PS

here's an interview excerpt from QT where he explains why he declined to direct either True Romance or Natural Born Killers

Looks like QT is getting some awesome free publicity before the release.

Pretty much the movie I'm looking forward to the most this month. New article today. Seems like it is going to include an intermission, which is fucking rad. http://www.showbiz411.com/2015/12/01...r-performances

Watched it last night via putlocker. To me, Hateful Eight felt like Reservoir Dogs meets Kill Bill. Thought it was an excellent movie and one I'll pay to see in 70mm. I've read reviews from people saying the movie drags and that it's too long, but that's total bullshit. I was gripped the entire fucking time.

It starts the day after tomorrow in 70mm in the big city an hour away. Looks like I might be making the drive.

Watched most of it before I had to turn it off. Typical pointlessly-long self-indulgent Tarantino but with annoying Ennio Morricone. Nice scenery though. I'll finish watching it sometime, I guess.

    The Revenant, however. fkna
    Bone Tomahawk also good.

Gotta say I was a little disappointed. Maybe I had too high of hopes as I was going into it thinking this could possibly turn out to be his best work. Not the case, one of my least favorite Tarantino movies.

Still liked it though, cool scenery, 70mm was cool, Ennio Morricone score was dope, and the second act saved it from being a total dud.
