Team Powered by Ganga has been selected. My picks consist of Froome, Quintana, Sagan, Greipel and the cheapest people on Sky & Moviestar.

Team "Old And In The Way" is back for another go:
    1. Thibaut Pinot FDJ
    2. Peter Sagan Tinkoff - Saxo
    3. Tejay Van Garderen BMC Racing Team
    4. Mark Cavendish Etixx - Quick Step
    5. Richie Porte Team Sky
    6. Pierre Rolland* Team Europcar
    7. Tom Dumoulin* Team Giant - Alpecin
    8. Simon Gerrans Orica GreenEDGE
    9. Anthony Delaplace Bretagne - Seche Environnement

    I had wanted
Andrew Talansky and Jose Joaquin Rojas, but Rolland and Dumoilin were the nesccesary types of riders to fill out the form and well enough known about to make them decent exchanges.

    Count me in for $10.

Lance's Lonely Nut is locked and loaded (that sounds gross).

    Rider Team Cost
Vincenzo Nibali Astana Pro Team 18
Roman Kreuziger Tinkoff - Saxo 8
    Nairo Quintana Movistar Team 22
    Giampaolo Caruso Team Katusha 8
Mark Cavendish Etixx - Quick Step 12
Tony Martin Etixx - Quick Step 8
Zdenek Stybar Etixx - Quick Step 6
    Luke Durbridge Orica GreenEDGE 4
    Alexander Kristoff Team Katusha 14

I really struggled to find a way to get Sagan on the list, but opted for Stybar and Kristoff as better than one Sagan. That Kristoff better find some spring form again.

so i signed up Degenkolb. (I have Cav as my wildcard)

and then he says ""I will try and stand my ground on those stages. I'm not a sprinter, but with a good team around me I should be able to compete for the victory."

hey, john, you're the sprinter now...kittel's at home watching
maybe making room for kristoff is a better idea?
or go back to a banged up Bouhanni who will be at the start as it turns out?

It's Cav and Kristoff for the sprints this year. If Kristoff brings his spring form, he'll clean up. Bouhanni and Greipel are also-rans. Sagan could contend, but not on the flats. Beside, he wants green which means consistency and not necessarily wins.

    2. Contador has a Giro in his legs and may not hold up.
    3. The only legit Nibali contender is Quintana in my mind. If Quintana can get through the TT and the cobbles he could make it interesting in the mountains.

Plus Nibali's team are a bunch of doped up freaks who seem to have a free get out of jail pass this year. They were out of control at the Giro.

^^^ Your analysis forgets that Froome and Contador crashed out before the mountains, and Quintana was held out to compete in the Giro and Vuelta?

Quintana is too frail to hold up on the northern routes. He lives for the steeps. I'm rooting for him to make the GC contention tight, but I'm suspicious of his ability to be close enough by the time the steeps appear to put pressure on the leaders.

I think nibbles will be held back in order to retain Astana's pro license as agreed before letting them race this year (pure speculation). Or he can't look too freakishly good because of the extra scrutiny. One way or the other: not his year (tho he kicked ass at IT's nationals)

Froome's itching to prove himself. He's been gone long enough that riders wonder about his winning ability. and he barely won the Criterium du dauphine, no dominance displayed --- it might be fun if he pulls out another alien climb tho. Nevertheless, I believe he's the favorite -- Sky knows how to manage the daily grind and their domestiques are all studs

Contador may have spent his GT matches this spring, but he's a scrapper and savvy in all the types of terrain they'll cover. He doesn't have the kind of team that can protect him, tho

I thought Bouhanni would continue to develop and have a breakout session at this Tour. But being beat up at the opening bell is not going to go well.

I'm actually kind of excited to see degenkolb make a go of it -- two solid classics wins this spring give me hope

    Alberto?

He looks like a stronger version of himself. Assuming he does not hit pave or pavement too hard or too often, this tour suits him just fine. I have to agree with the notion that his team is not up to it, on paper at any rate. They may have been holding some reserves in the Giro. If that is so, there may be more support for the Tour.

I suppose all Giro winners have the Grand Triple in their fantasy....Alberto may have what it takes. The four mountain stages before Paris are no lock for anyone; but the battle on Alpe d'Huez looks like it will settle the GC. If the top four fravorites are close, that stage could be one for legend.

Good luck to all the riders, may the weather be fair and the attrition slight.

There's little doubt that Nibbles is a better bike handler than Froome (not sure about Contador) which certainly contributed to Nibbles making the selection last year and Froome on his ass. In fact, that may be true again this year with some very challenging descents.

Mostly, I just hate Froome. He's got all the style of a block of wood. Every time I see him climb he look like he's fuckin' the bike. It's absurd. And I'm not even Italian!! Imagine what those cheese-eating freaks must think. Reminds me of Voeckler who also looks like shit on a bike.

    Too true
but can he stay out of trouble in the north and arrive in the mountains within a reasonable buffer? i'm betting against (well, $10 against you lot anyway )

the Giro was fun to watch this year - lots of interest in the daily winners
this should be a good Tour - hopefully no crashouts and lots of competitive days with a closer GC battle than the Giro
