Head A Star SW Skis at Level Nine for a Killer Deal Team Ski.

I have seen pictures of these on James Heims feet but never in person. Looks like we got some in at Level Nine and they sound sweet. And the price is killer

Motherfucking yeah! Damn, if only this thing was just a bit skinnier, I'd be all over it like a fat kid on cake. Money rocker profile and Head construction? mmmmm

    Still really really tempted.

    Thanks for the pic-

With that low, flat tail, I expect it'll ski like it feels longer than a 187cm. Interesting.

Price jumped to $399 at some point. Was gonna pull the trigger at $200 but new price makes me think about it a little more.

FWIW, I demoed these for a few runs at Whistler last April and thought they were terrible. I didn't ski them in pow, but compared to the other big mountain skis I used, these were crazy heavy, horrendous on groomers, slow turning through slush bumps, and not very stable at speed.

Maybe a much bigger person would like these (I'm 5'11" and 160lbs), but perhaps there's also a reason these didn't get a normal public release...

    What'd you compare them too?

Skied them back to back with the Cochise and Foon Tyfoon on the same runs in the same conditions. Both were more stable straight lining deep slush than the A-Stars. Both were better on groomers (Cochise was much better). Both were quicker in slush bumps. Both were lighter--my knees were hurting at the end of the lift rides with the A-Stars.

The Head reps mentioned nothing about these being a limited release team ski, they just said they were James Heim's pro models. Then I saw nothing about them all year and wondered if they had been scrapped altogether. I haven't skied that many skis in my life, but these were a lot worse than anything else I've tried.

Hey everyone. Sorry for the confusion about the price on these skis. We made a mistake when listing them and put them up for $200 instead of $399 as intended. Unfortunately, we cannot honor the $200 price but if you mention this thread to our customer service team, they will be able to work something out for you. Once again, thanks for your interest and sorry for the confusion with the initial listing.

surely you can let one pair of those monstrosities go the lower price?

Head A Star SW Skis at Level Nine for a Killer Deal Team Ski.

Yeah, sounds like they'd be a better fit for a stronger and more aggressive rider. They're also substantially wider. Cochises a pretty mellow going ski that can be cranked up - not that stiff really. I have no doubt the Tyfoon is even less of a charger. Weighs pretty much nothing, too. Deep slush stability has a lot to do with tune, by the way (structure and wax).

Unfortunately, $200 is just too cheap and would actually be less than our cost so I cannot do that for you. Our customer service team has been approved to work with people who mention this thread, though, so please do get in touch with us and see if we can't work something out for you.

Finally got a day in at the bird on these suckers. Coming back from a sprained ankle so I was relegated to mostly groomer duty and a few soft bumps. Off trail was still a but too much for the weak ankle.

Mounted the skis -1 from the line and happy with that decision. Very intuitive ski. Could very well be any everyday ski when it's just a little bit soft or more. Even after one day I can tell this is the ski I was looking for. Something for the steep and tight terrain of Telluride and the like. 28m side cut so you don't have to fight them in steeps. Easily break out of a carve and drift at any point in the turn. Skis moguls very well for the wider waist. Damp and heavy but don't feel cumbersome underfoot at all. Very balanced fun charger.

I'm glad you like them I'm looking forward to skiing them next season. What would you compare the flex to?

They are fairly stiff underfoot but not overly so.. in my opinion anyways.. but I am a skiing linebacker and like stiff skis so take that for what it's worth. The width plus the longer radius plus the stiffness does mean they can get planky if you get backseat but also means they have a tail you can stand on and it won't wash out.
