    Sr. Design Engineer - Snowboard Bindings (K2 Sports Seattle)
    compensation: Based upon Experience.

    K2 Sports, located in Seattle, has an opening for a Sr. Design Engineer for Snowboard Bindings. The primary responsibility of the Sr. Design Engineer is the management and engineering development of the snowboard binding product line. Will be working with the Category Manager to develop a product line that meets the quality needs, delivery goals, value objectives, cost targets, budget limits and innovation needs to be competitive in the market.

    50% 1. BINDING DEVELOPMENT

    Work with Category Manager to set the goals and objectives of the Binding Product Line.
    Utilize available development resources (Factories, ID firms, Graphic Design, in-house resources, etc.) to engineer a product line that:
    Meets the needs of the appropriate riders (Team, novice-advanced rider, rental shop) for fit, durability, performance, convenience, comfort, and any other objectives
    Meets unit cost targets for each model.
    Doesn't violate competitor patents. Create new patents for K2 Sports where possible.
    Manage generation, approval, and filing of 3D solid model and 2D drawing files.
    Develop and Execute product test plan to ensure that designs meet performance and durability targets. Utilize FEA, factory test labs, Vashon Test Lab, Team riders and on-snow test group.
    Material selection that balances performance, durability and cost.
    Plan and Manage tooling schedule and build to meet delivery targets and capital budgets.
    Manage execution of graphic sampling and buy-off to meet the goals of the creative department and also meets unit cost targets.
    Manage execution of generating, sampling and buy-off of all binding packaging material, including Box, Warranty Card, Instruction Manual, etc.
    Manage achievement of on-time binding buy-off to get sample and production bindings delivered on time.

    35% 2. LINE MANAGEMENT

    Participate in Product Planning meetings (GSM/RAB/etc) to set line plans with detailed goals and objectives.
    Develop, coordinate, maintain, and communicate detailed project lists, development plans and schedules to meet program targets and milestones.
    Generate and maintain accurate Bill of Materials
    Manage and Maintain up-to-date database of 3D solid model and 2D drawing files.

    5% 3. QUALITY ASSURANCE AND WARRANTY

    Generation and approval of top-level SOP's and specifications for quality control of parts and processes.
    Confirmation that QC processes are efficient and effective.
    Monitor Warranty Reports and establish plan for addressing suspect or high wear parts.
    Work with Warranty to prepare and stock appropriate replacement part quantities.

    10% 4. SALES & MARKETING.

    Assist with development of promotional material and sales force education as required, including technical catalog copy and technical video generation.
    Maintain market awareness through interaction with the team, test riders, dealers and sales force, on hill experience, trade show research and shop visits.

    Minimum qualifications:

    BS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
    3-8 years of related product design engineering experience.
    Must be passionate about snowboarding.
    Must be an experienced, proficient and currently active snowboarder.
    Must be able to travel frequently. At a minimum will make the following trips to SIA (1 week), On Snow Demos (1-2 weeks), Development On Site Factory Support (8-10 weeks), On Snow Testing as necessary.

    Desired Qualifications:

    Work Experience

    2-5 years Project/Product Management experience. Experience in manufacturing (plastic processing, metal processing, and assembly).
    Experience with CAD/FEA software (ProE/Mechanica preferred).
    Experience initiating and completing design projects from concept through production.
    Experience setting-up, running, and analyzing experiments.
    Experience setting-up specifications for quality control and analyzing quality control data.

    Knowledge:

    Well versed in all aspects of development and manufacturing including prototyping, CAD, FEA, tool making, material selection, component selection, injection molding, metal processing, assembly. Must have an in depth knowledge of the snowboard market.

    Mental:

    Must be willing to travel to trade shows, test sessions, and factories. Must be self-motivated and able to manage projects at the factory. Must have attention to detail for design, buy-off, and quality control. Must be able to manage a wide range of projects from engineering to aesthetics. Must be patient enough to deal with the language barrier. Must be strong willed to hold our position at the factory.

    Interpersonal:

    Must be able to motivate factory to focus on our projects. Must be able to clearly communicate while traveling. Must be able to work in a team environment.
