Based on URL, it seems like the chilkat valley news article is a couple of years old.

The ADN story. Other is 2 years old. SE Alaska has been getting good snow of late, but day time temps are going up and down. Glad he's ok.

Glad Sunny is ok. Not sure whats going on in the Tele Zone the past few years, but its fired as far as im concerned.
Out the road we have been seeing a stable snowpack, with snow conditions about as good as it gets yesterday. It just snowed 25cm overnight on the highway last night as well...
I will get some pictures up here soon...

Seriously. WTF. I was supposed to fly with SEABA last year, am scheduled to fly with them again this year but I have to say it is becoming very apparent that in these low snow years the snowpack by town is very different than out the road. Saw this 2 days ago on NWS Alaska FB page which supports that:

Yes, it is. Haines Customs and White Pass reported higher snowfall in the last 24 hours than the town:

Are things currently skiable below treeline? Just wondering what the touring prospects might be on down / flat light days.

Not really in the valley. The trees on the pass may be skiable, especially with the 18 inches new outside my door. Might go check it out tomorrow if we are not flying. Shoot a PM if you want more info-happy to help. Bring your passport.
Come on up buddy! Your first run is on me!Drive slow, homie.

Is it me, or do you guys have a high rate of accidents and deaths there.
I have not missed a season in AK in over a decade, and it always seems like Haines has some kind of catastrophic accident each year.

Haines AK Conditions 2015
I thought it was assumed, I do ski w Splat...
I am bringing some Pappy bourbon,
which now is actually much harder to score than blow.Last edited by otto parts; 03-16-2015 at 08:13 PM.

Cannot speak to SEABA - but it's pretty well going off here in our zone. Meter of new snow 4 days ago - storm instabilities are pretty well settled out and we are skiing steep terrain with no signs of instability near the surface or in the large amount of pits we are digging throughout our terrain. Today we had multiple helicopters, 9 groups + film crews. I can get some pictures up here soon, although they will do no justice...
