    Meanwhile in Vermont,.............Shames visits Magic.

    After reading Zeedashbo'z TR https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...on-A-shames-TR

I decided to add a side note, part II to this TGR success story.

Year's ago & screen names back GaryFromTerrace contacted me to pick my brain about Magic Mountain Vermont. Long story short, although we're thousands of miles apart with totally different terrain, snow, etc., the similarities between Gary's home mountain & many here's are quite apparent. We decided Magic & Shames must meet.

Fast forward to a few weeks back. Gary contacts me & says he'll be in Boston for Valentine's Day & would love to head up to ski Magic. Well needless to say the lady was beyond stoked to have some Canadian I've never met stay @ my place on V day. My "internet buddy" was coming!

Gary arrived Valentine's morning @ the lodge before me. I walk, he drove from Boston. I knew this man did not fuck around.

Valentine's or not he was ready for his 1st East Coast ski day.

    Gary & MMP ready... (Pinhead)

So we got a bit of fresh snow for our new friend. Gary's 1st EC day.
    Pinhead schralping

    Son of Pinhead#2

Who's that guy looking on, leading the pack?

It's Gary,.........All the way from BC Canada eh'.

Does this FKN guy realize we have tree's here?

No matter,.........clearly unaffected by a sasquatch marking Gary's goes anyway.

Short walk to fresh snow? Let's do it.

Walk? Bullshit. "Hey ladies, how you doing"

    Dirtbags & Canadians walk.

Our destination. "who's launching?" Gary of course!

He barks the order to random dude. "Beer me"

    Hydarationz complete Gary goes........

    WANKERZ AWAY!!!

Now onto some fresh snow. In typical Canadian fashion, Gary takes a wrong turn & gets lost.

    We continue on......

Tex fills in for Gary in the Canine for Canadian exchange.

    Tex goes neck deep.

    His human Magicsnowboard.

    Bankman

We found our lost friend & back we go for festivities!

Gary was extremely shy & cautious but he somewhat loosened up after a while.

Now here I am @ the bar looking for my guest from the great white North. "Where the hell is Gary?" Just to make sure he's ok? Genuine concern........

    Oh' there he is!!

So needless to say & to reiterate the PNW crew who visited Shames. Gary is one hell of a guy & really likes to have fun. You are more than welcome anytime my friend. I plan to someday repay you with a visit your way.

edit: That shotski has maggot history. DoWork was looking for a Hellbent for a bomb shotski. Tuco had one and we swung by his place and picked it up after skiing at Solitude with SFB, Iceman, and The Fugitive, and flew that thing home. From UT to VT to Gary FromT.

Fuck Off! It just so happened that my trip out there coincided with my bulking up for a big body building competition. The day I left was the start of my sodium depleting. I am now cut as shit.

Great tr, love that you guys got the time and snow to enjoy the lil guy.
    Hey! Bobby see above!
Wish I could have spent more time there (and in Vermont in general).

It was so good to meet you guys at Magic! Second to LBD at Alpental it was the most mags I have met at once and you guys (and non-mag gals) did not disappoint. I've long heard about the legendary tree, gnar, and challenging skiing of the east and it's all true. Though I didn't have to deal with the real nasty shit that these guys have to ski, I did get a new appreciation for skiers finding lines in trees that most other skiers would consider nonexistent. These guys really ski, and cut their own runs and it makes sense to me now that when you come across an EC skier out west they fucking shralp. Jesus, you'd have to coming from places like Magic Mountain.

The next morning (yes, only one glorious day and evening in paradise) I had to fulfill a familial obligation made at a wedding in Boston last October. Sugarbush bound I was, and left Magic with a proper hangover in the morning. I met the stepson's wife's uncle at lunch time and immediately skied the toughest shit he could find off Lincoln Peak, then Castlerock and finally ended the day on a huge run down Slide Brook ending up on a road, catching a bus back to the resort. The guy (Kevin) could fucking ski. I got worked hard trying to keep up, and of course it was all "the woods" all the time.

The next morning the weather (did I mention it was about 4 degrees Kelvin throughout this trip) was atrocious at Sugarbush and all the upper lifts were on wind hold. So I suggested to Kevin that we ski Mad River Glen - Coop research and prevention of freezing my nards off seemed to make sense. Off we went. Now the boys at Magic did their best to make me tired, Kevin did his best at Sugarbush to kill me. Now it was time for a ski hill to pummel me into submission.

If you think you can ski, you should go to Mad River Glen (and also Magic, fuck you Benny Profane). Seriously though the place was off the charts. Kevin kept charging and though I beat him down a couple of more open runs he was beginning to get farther away from me each run. Until the fateful run.

I'm an OK skier. Lots of miles will do that. But when I fell more times on my second last run than I did all last year, I knew I had been beaten. The east and Mad River Glen had defeated me. I tried to get my shit together and with a fake smile told Kevin I was good for another run. I thought doing the bump run under the single chair would give me some semblance of mojo back, as I'd ripped it decently early in the day. Yeah... uh no. I crashed at speed about 3/4 down ending up on my back and barely getting my skis in front of me before heading into the trees and taking the hit with my boards.

That's it, I was done skiing the east and my ass was handed to me. Off to the bar was I. Kevin of course did another run (he's an EC skier after all...). Sitting in the bar and nursing my bruised pride I reached for my phone. Gone, very likely lost when I fell 4 or 5 times in the trees a couple of runs previously. So not only did Mad River Glen kick my sorry ass, the bitch stole my cell phone.

Ski the east, mother fuckers. Pick a good week and go challenge yourselves. If you think you're a good skier, prove it. Ski places like Magic and Mad River Glen. I'll bet there's some amazing shit around Smuggler's Notch with TC and crew. Places where guys cut their own runs (because they have to) and ski ridiculously tight trees in shitty conditions (because they have to). I'll be back after I practice more.

This is fantastic. Gary is the gift that keeps on giving. There is no way I could take a whole day of east coast in bounds skiing. My legs would give out in no time. All the respect for our east coast brethren. Big ups! You guys deserve a good year every once in a while

This thread is awesome. While I was skiing some of the best lines of my season that day, somehow I wish I had ended up at Magic.

Gary survived a lift with MMP, ripped trees, hit the NatGeo jump, and then joined the fuckin' band after a few shot-skis! As a final chapter, he comes back here to let everyone out west know what damn fine skiers we are here back east. Damn, he makes me sad I'm racist against Canadians.

Looks like a helluva day, glad Gary got the red carpet treatment! Always so much fun no matter what kind of pitch you're looking for.

And we east coasters can't handle the thin air with the longer runs out West. I find it's all the same in the end, just different challenges.

Although lightly represented by the West Coast (but as evidenced it was quality over quantity), its nice to see the 1st Annual "Fuck You Benny, I'm Skiing Magic" Day was a scorching success.
