    Mt. Vista TR (almost)

Well we didn't make it. Vista when I get a good map I'll post it. Basically we started too late, took a long time deciding our route and didn't have crampons causing us to freak out on anything steep (and boy were there some steeps)

Hey I can see my house from here

    Blacktailed rocks

    Mt Vista

    Sadie

    Our traverse across blacktail

So basically we hauled ass up baldy, then got up the first peak of blacktailed rocks it was all going to plan untill we got to the col between the first and second peak. We stopped and tried to figure out the best way around the peak. Neil (the 54 year old badass telemarker) wanted to weave through the rocks practicing mountianeering, I wanted to ski traverse the north face that had relitively few rocks but was icy. After about an hour I won out and at 2 our turn around time we got to the col that seperated the approach ridge and blacktailed rocks.

From there we skied something which I've never even seen and could have never been skied before. I dubbed it Murphy's Law after John and Neils last name. 1500' of southfacing corn was soft and easy to turn about 30° and a wide chute made for a long long run strait down, it wasn't vista but it was a nice consolation prize. Halfway down Neil brok his binding on some avy debris so we duct taped his ski to his boot for the taverse out to mile high saddle.

Next time we'll make it I guess its good we turned around it was getting hot

Wow, I haven't seen a pic of that town since I was there 16 years ago. It sure has grown.

Great stuff AK and congrats on some of your recent shots. They really are fantastic.

Nice pic. And your backyard is truly AMAZING!

You should not buy a season pass for a year or more and spend a few years ice climbing, rock climbing, and bc skiing up there in AK. Then take your skills to the higher peaks such as Hunter, Sultana, Huntington, the Big One, etc. It's all at your fingertips up there.

Thats why I'm going to school in Juneau, I'll be on the ski patroll and ski on the weekends there and just skip every sunny day to ski stuff (unless I have telemarking or ice climbing or glacier travel that day). South East Alaska probably has more first descents left then anywhere in the US except maybe the wrangle st. elais and the brooks range (but that doesn't count). Some day I wanna ski the big one but I wanna get vista first. This was my first ski mountaineering trip and damn its rough out there but so much fun. I'm so excited for life I'm gona try to go to norway take lots of pictures and ski sick lines.

in case anybody was wonder what the big on is its the tallest peak in this picture (and North America)

It's taken me about 15 looks at that photo to spot WTF you're talking about! Might want to bring those out if they're meant to be part of the piccie...

Do you realize that you've just posted an admission of ignorance so breathtaking that it disqualifies you from commenting on any political or economic threads from here on out?
