All things in moderation, ppl, all things in moderation.
I used to drink absurd amounts of coffee when I worked on the Bering Sea...crazy amounts...as did almost all out there ('cept I didn't smoke). I'd estimate maybe 10 to 12 cups of galley coffee (strong) or wheelhouse coffee (ridiculously strong) every day, 7 days a week during on seasons. The deck crew would often get so busy that instead of making a cuppa, they'd head out on deck chewing coffee beans and putting the grounds under their tongues...luckily I wasn't that hard up for time.
Off seasons, I'd go back to my weird herbal tea concoctions and vegetable juices. I always thought those on-seasons would make me addicted to coffee, but they never did. After I went back to doing research and around laboratories, I had one coworker who drank his coffee out of 125ml erlenmyer flasks...he swore the shape made the coffee taste better, I think he spent too much time under the chemical venthood myself.
My coffee consumption modulates as to my work load, but I try to keep the max at 2-3 cups/day...and avg usually one. Peets Coffee....that's my monkey on my back."The reason death sticks so closely to life isn't biological necessity - it's envy. Life is so beautiful that death has fallen in love with it; a jealous, possesive love that grabs at what it can." by Yann Martel from Life of Pi

I do love a pot of Green tea. Have you tried Lapsang Souchong? Very different.
The "tea" I like to drink at night is Tulsi
In my younger days I would eat chocolate covered coffee beans by the handful while at the office. Got to the point where I developed an eye twitch which was not good.

A friend uses a coffee press for this reason (This may be the one). I did not realize this but apparently by pressing the water over the grounds there is less acid as in espresso. The time the water is moving through the grounds is reduced vs drip coffee or French press coffee.

Different people metabolize coffee/caffine differently. Have you tried cold process coffee?

I thought this article was worth reading, though it's now a few years old (I think):
http://science.nationalgeographic.co...caffeine-buzz/
For the first year after my twins were born, I was drinking 5-7 cups per day, at least when I was work. Now, more like 2-3.

Coffee is good, bacon is good, eggs are good......why anybody would want to stop ingesting this stuff in moderation is beyond me. I drink 24 oz's of coffee a morning. Take a great dump and I am on with my day. Coffee is good.

i worked a bunch last night, I had a cup at 300 and another at 500. I had one more before I went home at 700. When I got home I put the moka pot on and had another cup and a half. I took a long nap at 1200 and had another cup around 1400 and another half cup at 1500. Not shakes, rapid heartbeat or sweating. I don't get headaches if I abstain for a day. I must metabolize caffeine differently.

Coffee Hiatus
I usually try to give up coffee for a few weeks each year as my consumption/addiction/jittery irritability gets out of hand. Haven't been able to pull it off the last couple of years due to the withdrawal headaches, but fucked up my back a few weeks ago and haven't had coffee since. Coincidently, I started eating Vicodin morning, noon and night. No caffeine headache whatsoever!

My wife decided to switch to matcha green tea for the month of January (and give up alcohol for the month, another story) and I was doing fine with giving it a go. But, a weekend MTB trip out of town last weekend found me sitting in a diner and drinking cup after delicious cup of joe. I love the way it tastes and makes me feel.

5 years ago I gave up coffee for 40 days and 40 nights, bad headache for 2-3 days and then I was gold. Felt good just slamming a pint of water in the morning.
At day 41 all my friends rained down on me. I had all sorts of shit (cappuccino, white mocha, Americano). Wrecked me hard and was not a fun transition back onto the black crack. You kinda need coffee in college though. Never tried that again and I keep it kosher on the weekdays with 1-2 cups.
Coffee is good for you, lots of antioxidants if freshly prepared and not mixed with milks, syrups, etc.
Energy drinks kill, Google it. Thanks for sharing OP.
