Unless they all decide to get along I could see these shows being sub par. More of the experience thing for folks. I never felt like I needed to be at Other Ones or The Dead shows unless it was convenient. This seems different for some reason. Maybe cuz I will be 80 miles from Soldier then anyway.
A streaming couch venue is starting to sound nice tho!

Exactly my worry. I was at Tinley in 90 and that experience was out of hand and then some. The fence climbers the first night overwhelmed the security force, the next 2 nights had troopers on horseback inside the venue and all over the lot busting people for anything that even looked remotely suspicious.
I sent in my unartistic envelope yesterday with little expectation and won't be crushed if I don't get tiks but my buddy got the green light to go as his 50th bday boys trip so I'm hoping we get hooked up just for that reason.
I definitely agree that with only 3 shows it will be a tall order to get everyone to gel but I'd be surprised if Phil doesn't have a pretty intense rehearsal schedule set up well in advance to try to make it as tight as possible. I just hope the whole runs setlists aren't rehearsed and set in stone ahead of time by Jill.Last edited by FussyDutchman; 01-22-2015 at 09:52 AM.

Can't do it; my time in that has passed and I'm Grateful for the 10s of shows I got to see. There is nothing like a Dead show.
I wish well for all those that can get the rise from it.Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski

I dropped in on the mail order to see if we get a nibble, figure out the rest later. Not going is still an option, having tix will give us the luxury to decide later. I'm sure I can make them go away if need be. The prospect of seeing old friends from around the country at a big show again is certainly inviting, if this thing turns out to be great I would be bummed to have missed it.
I'm cautiously optimistic for what the sound/scene may end up being. This is one of the only stadium shows I'm interested in at this point Led Zep being the other and that ain't happening. I'm also not convinced that after this sells out there won't be an announcement of Lock'n or some yet to be named festival. However Chicago is guaranteed to be an evening with the band albeit a patchwork quilt of the band we all know and love.
Just saw DSO announced more EC Spring dates, I already know I'll get my fill of well played GD music long before the scene unfolds at Soldier Field. If they weren't good at it no one would go see them.Last edited by ticketchecker; 01-21-2015 at 11:59 AM.

Right on. Right there with ya. My last show was 3 Rivers summer of '95. One of Jerry's last shows too. Started pouring rain after space, and they came out and played 4 rain songs in a row. Started raining as they hit the first note, and stopped on the last. At least that is how I remember it. No way am I going to recreate that.

Ha, that's a good zing right there!
His Travis Bean from mid 70's has been out lately also, played by Jake of UM at a show in the last few months, though I doubt that would be a guitar tonally that would interest trey. I'd be surprised if he played one of Jerry's axes but what do I know. I would also not be surprised to see Donna take the stage for a song or two, for better or worse she was part of the carnival for 8 yrs.

If DSO is your thing, you really have to check out Jeezum Crow Fest at Jay Peak. So chill, great lodging......

Just reserved a hotel room for 1380 bucks in downtown Chicago. Just in case I get tickets. That price alone is making me gut check how bad I want this.

According to a friend that lived in Chicago, it is a shitshow on the 4th as it is and now add this to the mess. Maybe I'll just fly out there, rent a car and become an Uber driver for the week.
I think my wife got a 350 a night room. Complete gouging going on. Many will end up getting canceled and then potentially rebooked. I wonder if the rates hold or go up even more. It will be interesting how that plays out. If a bunch of stoners procrastinate and don't cancel until last minute, a bunch of rooms open up at a cheaper rate the day before?

I'd expect rates to go down as cancellations flood in after people get shut out of mail order and on-line ordering.

So I'm starting to see all the memes about how Trey is going to cut off his finger to appease Deadheads. A photo of the band with Trey sitting where Jerry should be, but yet it says Grateful Dead. I don't know guys, something just doesn't sit right.

I forgot about this, and I was even there. A sample of what Trey is capable of doing to a Dead song. This was the encore at Virgina Beach in August 9, 1998

Yeah, they've come a long way. It used to be so uptight back in the 80's. I know the owners and now that the kids run the operations it has mellowed tremendously. Of course, the craziness of the 60-70's didn't help and most likely why they had to clamp down in 80's into the 90's.
Recently they just had a new majority owner buy the whole casino area and he is making good changes and investing some money to the whole place. It needs it. We (locals) have always felt like that place is the armpit of Hampton. The beach is so damn nice, but I never go there. During the big fire a few yrs ago there were very few true Hamptonites that weren't wishing the whole place would just burn down. The winter scene is not good down there. Dirt bag slum lords from MA.
