    TR: Myrkdalen, Voss, Norway

Micro TR from Myrkdalen, Voss, Norway (map) last weekend. 140cm (55") in 72 hours.

Here's a car with one day of snow on it:

We had two days of this, with a 80cm (31") of fresh snow between Saturday and Sunday:

At first we didn't know we had skied out of the woods and onto a garage roof:

    An alternative to skiing:

More pictures (w/Norwegian captions, sorry): http://superelectric.net/2015/ It's still snowing, I might go back the coming weekend.

Travel tips (we skipped step 1, since we live in Oslo)

    Getting to Myrkdalen:
    1) Fly to Oslo (Gardermoen airport), take Flytoget (the airport express train) to Oslo Central Station.
    2) Take the night train to Voss at 23:25: https://www.nsb.no/en/ (buy a sleeping cabin if you want to sleep)
    3) Arrive at Voss station at 05:32 in the morning.
    4) Walk 2 minutes to Fleischer's Hotel (http://www.fleischers.no/en/), wait for the breakfast to open at 07:00.
    5) Change to skiing clothes at Fleischer's.
    6) Enjoy the superb breakfast buffet.
    7) Take the free ski bus from Voss to Myrkdalen at 08:30, arrive at Myrkdalen 09:00: http://myrkdalen.no/ski-resort/free-ski-bus/?lang=en
    8) Check-in at Myrkdalen Hotel: http://myrkdalen.no/?lang=en
    9) Be first in line when the lifts open at 09:30

Or just fly to Bergen (Flesland airport), and take the train from there to Voss.

    Going home:
    1) Take the free ski bus from Myrkdalen to Voss at 15:30.
    2) Arrive at Voss station 16:00.
    3) Take the 17:11 train to Oslo, arrive 22:30 at Oslo Central Station.

    Hi Bzzzt

Great photos, thanks for posting them!

What's the off-piste like around Voss itself? (obviously Myrkdalen is great)

Is there any high-alpine type off-piste in the area, i.e. any chutes and cliff bands?

    Cheers!

    Hi & thanks!

When I was there, there were only two lifts open, so we skied the same area for two days: Not-too-steep hilly terrain with birch trees, as in the photos. I'm sure there are lots more to choose from, but with flat light, quite a bit of wind and few "competitors" for the snow, we were happy to stay in the same area.

This video may give a better idea of what it's like: http://www.friflyt.no/Ski/SKIPATRULJ...dd-i-Myrkdalen

I've been told that there are good touring opportunities in the area, beyond the lifts, but I have never tried. Yet.

Nice to see you back on the forums, Mr.Stapler!

Southern norwedge seem to have the base dialed for the springtime romps! Oh yeah! Pity that Stryns top lift is not running this
    season, apparently?

The floggings will continue until morale improves.
