I'm in the islands now, but no rock skis to play with! Hopefully it's still around in time to acquire some rock skis.

I was watching a weather channel the other day and noticed it said heavy snowfall for Hawaii.
I left a boots/skis/poles setup for two in Hilo many years ago. Hopefully they're still sliding on Mauna Kea.

I'll be on the big island jan 11-21, if anyone wants to ski and can lend me some gear. 27-29 boot, who cares about the skis- it'd be a hoot. Pm me.

Make sure not to fall. I'm going to guess that relatively new volcanic rock won't be kind when a shark catches your base.

I'll be honeymooning on the big island 1/4 - 1/9 . For some reason, the new missus isn't too excited about skiing there, but who can deny road shuttled skiing at nearly 14k and snorkeling on the same day? Anyone know the scoop on renting there? Size 25-27 boot should work for a few runs.

My guess is the ski rental business is pretty slow in Hawaii. Probably not a huge selection. Just toss your skis in the pile of things to pack, but wear your gopro so we can see your wife's reaction.

No rentals, but the ski club will loan equipment. You may consider asking what they might need so you can offer a swap.

Good luck getting Mauna Loa for turns. The other Mauna may be better.

I thought about booking a ticket. Should be a once-in-10 years event, according to the news

aww. that's a bummer man. though, on to the tickets, I say buy them anyway. I mean, you know what they say about Hawaii when there's no snow....still Hawaii. I'm not sure if they actually say that, but you see what I mean.

I've driven up there in the AM and was back at sea level for some body surfing in the afternoon. It's a trip.

I can make some inferences from the info above but I'll just come out and ask, what are the chances i might be able to get some skiing in? I will be there in March.

The chances are extremely slim. It only happens maybe once every several years (where there's enough snow to really ski) and it's usually in Dec - Feb.
I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.
