What do skiers look for in a Jacket?

    Hi all,

I'm part of a start-up company called Lukla that makes insulating liners for outerwear jackets. We've recently started the development of a jacket specifically for skiers! The only problem is finding out exactly what skiers like yourself like! If you have strong opinions, please feel free to share them or address some of the following questions below:

What is your favorite brand of jacket and why (i.e. durability, style, fit, warmth)?

What specific features do you look for in a jacket (i.e permanent hood, detachable hood, or no hood) and why?

What color schemes do you like?

Also, if you feel comfortable giving some basic demographic information such as age, sex, and level of skiier experience (beginner, moderate, advanced, pro) that would be great!

    Thanks!

    Rithvik

    Only sleeves?

    Like some kind of "anti-vest".

    It's certainly unusual.

    Wallets and weed.

Why don't they make jackets for big and tall guys? Jackets seem to be made for short fat guys or tall, rail thin dudes.

I switched to a (non-insulated) hard shell layering system for skiing in NH and VT and I can't imagine anything that could convince me to go back.

That said.. Good cuff retention (big enough velcro that's easy to stick and holds on) hoods that fit over helmets without unzipping the coat down to your waist, good pit zips, and plenty of pockets are always nice.

My flylow quantum has all that, and I am a happy man.

Columbia is the best I've found for tall and fat. Order direct from them, as nobody stocks anything.
